Republican presidential front runner Donald Trump has received a lot of scrutiny for donating to Democratic politicians in the past. But Republican primary voters may be curious to know why one of his chief rivals, Dr. Ben Carson, officially joined the Republican Party less than one year ago. The American Mirror has obtained several public records that show Dr. Ben Carson, one of Trumps chief rivals, did not affiliate with the Republican Party until he changed his voter registration on October 31, 2014. Carson filed this record update/change on that date to change his party affiliation to Republican Party of Florida less than six months before declaring his candidacy for the Republican nomination for president. The office of Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections confirms, Dr. Carson was previously registered with a minor political party: Independence Party of Florida (IDP). Other records show Carson was also registered as an independent in Maryland. According to the Baltimore County Board of Elections, despite registering to vote in that county in 2001, Carson only voted in the general elections of 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012 and never in any primaries. An application for an absentee ballot from 2006 obtained from the Baltimore County Board of Elections shows Carson declared his party affiliation as Independent. So does it matter that a leading contender for the Republican nomination for president officially became a Republican only a short time ago? Youll never find a candidate that you agree with one hundred percent, Texas tea party leader Katrina Pierson tells The American Mirror. But, he should at least subscribe to your fundamental platform longer than six months prior to seeking to be your national leader.

Did Carson vote for the Democrat in 2008 and 2012?
Ronaldus Magnus was once a Democrat.
Just a year ago huh? hummmm
Guess I better not hear about Trump being a democrat anytime soon from Benny Boy....
Wow, makes my respect for Carson go through the roof!!
So what. Independent does not mean “middle”
I am still registered as an independent.
I am to the right of the republican party
sometimes those state independence parties are far more conservative than the GOP....
It could be that Carson is extremely conservative...and has moderated in order to become part of the GOP....
Bernie Sanders is to this day not a registered Democrat, yet is running on the Democrat ticket.
Nothing is inscribed in stone nor imprinted on your genetic code that makes anybody irrevocably of one political persuasion or another.
Sometimes the choice is entirely through a personal conviction that finally crystallizes over a lifetime, and sometimes it is just a way to chap your dad’s butt. People change their affiliations (and not just political) for any number of justifications, rational and irrational.
Gentle Ben came to his choice through rational thinking.
wheres the rest of the story? Surely if someone’s going to go through all the trouble of checking his voting record they can at least include the number of times he donated and voted for dem candidates.
Carson talked about this several times, and I think about the time he did it about a year ago. The headline at least on this article makes it out that Carson is trying to pull the wool over people’s eyes. Silly.
Hey, he wanted to run as a republican...
It could be that Carson is extremely conservative...and has moderated in order to become part of the GOP....
BEN CARSON: Conservative?

Does it matter that the leader on the Democrat side isn't even a member of their party?
Wait for all the ballot access challenges to mount up for Bernie Sanders. Some have already begun, but Democrats are circling the wagons early around the loopholes.

He said himself that he was an Independent after he became popular by speaking at the prayer event. I remember that.
I believe the fact that Dr. Carson was not a “card-carrying Republican” prior to last year is a plus, not a minus.....
They slammed Trump for running as a Republican.
They don’t seem to get it - conservatives hate the GOP, too.
