What war in Afghanistan?
We are not fighting a war. we are playing silly politics.
In a war you kill the enemy, lots and lots of the enemy. We are not doing that.

In the History books his successor will be blamed for the failure instead of him.

‘Hendrick and Johnson were warm friends, the latter putting great faith in the judgment of the chief. On one occasion Johnson was preparing a small force to repel an invasion, and asked Hendrick’s opinion of them. “If they are to fight they are too few; if they are to die they are too many,” laconically replied the chief.’

Is Afghanistan in the running for a branch of the Baraq Hussein Obama Presidential Library and Choom Gang Museum?

"We have an interest in denying Al Qaeda a sovereign-state base of operations, same as in 2001"

That can be done with drones and B-1b's.

In my opinion, Obama stays now because his planned surrender to the Taliban is no longer a sure thing with Putin in the Middle East. If Obama pulls out the vacuum he was hoping would be filled by ‘moderate’ Islamic jihadists could be filled instead with a Russian Afghanistan alliance.

Actually, in a nonpermissive aviation environment (say, Iran), you couldn't. You'd need a ground element like our allies in Afghanistan in 2001, Gen. Dostum's army (he's still alive, note) and the remains of Gen. Massoud's (the Lion of the Panjshir, who was assassinated by Bin Laden just before 9/11). The CIA, helped by these allies, was able to accomplish a lot and do FAC work for TAC and carrier air assets.
