Kroger Co. is the nation’s largest supermarket chain, and now it’s claiming another title, Forbes reports.

The Cincinnati-based grocer (NYSE: KR) will begin offering transgender workers full health benefits on Jan. 1, including surgery and drug therapy for gender reassignment. The move makes Kroger, the nation’s fifth-largest employer, the largest retail chain to offer such benefits to its employees.

The change in benefits was announced on an internal social media site on Friday after consulting with the company’s GLBT associate resource group called the Alliance of Kroger.

According to the announcement, the company’s employee insurance through Anthem will cover medical procedures for gender reassignment up to a $100,000 lifetime maximum for eligible associates and their dependents.

If one asks for this to be done it’s self mutilation.

Maybe in some future cloning then attachment surgery one can change one’s sex

Currently it is just mutilation

RE: Almost accepted a position as their Director of Benefits at the Corporate HQ earlier this year.

Just curious, what made you change your mind? The transgender policy was not in place until recently.

Better deal without having to commute into downtown Cincy and pay for parking. Their HQ is on the northern edge of downtown much closer to the not so nice Over-the Rhine.

One of those confused men works at my local Kroger. It’s so sad to see him. He’s pathetic.

I’m pretty sure Fred would not have approved. I worked at Freddies for 20 years. Left in 99 not long after Kroger bought it.

My pleasure at Kroger telling the antigun moms to get stuffed and allow unrestricted conceal carry, beats my displeasure at them caving to the pepperoni-cutters.

I will still shop at Krogers.

Fifty percent suicide rate among this group, so many *after* they’ve been to Dr. Kutcherpeckerov. But don’t call it a mental illness, lest you get set upon by the lib knotheads.

There are lots of stores that don’t support this crap.
I’ll sop at them.
