Mulcair indicated about a week ago that the NDP would be open to a coalition government, and if the Liberals fail to get to 170 seats, that is most likely what will happen as I see it.

Quebec is divided enough that they could still pick up 20-35 there. A decent showing in Ontario and an OK night in the west and they just might squeak it.

We can hope EKOS underestimated Conservative strength in Ontario and Western Canada.

Surprise result of the night, if not a Conservative minority government, could be a hung Parliament where no one has a clear edge in overall seats.

True - Harper completely stayed away from the abortion issue. As much as I like him for his fiscal policies and support of Israel, he didn’t stand for life.

We can hope, but as the present results from the rest of Canada, while early, are showing a Liberal majority at the moment.

CBC just called Justin Trudeau as the next PM, but uncertain if it will be a minority or majority (most likely minority).

Peter Mainsbridge on the CBC just called it for the Grits. Did not call a majority or minority.

I fully was expecting a Liberal win, but I doubt they can get up to a majority.

It will be a minority however I can’t see Conservatives agreeing to be part of a coalition, it will fall to the NDP to do that IF they have enough seats at the end of the night.

Guardian:
“1m ago
21:53
The official results page now projects an increasingly commanding lead for the Liberals, apparently at the expense of the NDP, and the Conservatives gaining with a not insignificant share of what progressives did not claim.
Liberals: 83 ridings, 57.9% of the vote
Conservatives: 42 ridings, 19.9%
NDP: 11 ridings, 17.5%

Although the networks have called victory for Trudeau and the Liberals, it’s not clear whether the latter have enough clout to actually pull off a majority government.”

Don’t understand a lick of it. I assume Harper has done a good fiscal job and now voters are putting in Treudeau to GIMME THAT MONEY!

Harper led minority governments after earlier elections before he got a majority.

Trudeau could lead a government without a coalition with the NDP if he so chooses.

The total now with Ontario, Quebec polls closed, other regions closing with BC closed at 10 Eastern.

125 Liberal, 71 Conservative, 13 NDP, 2 Bloc Quebecois

Big swing from NDP to Liberals, which is causing Conservative seats to fall.

Yup - gimme, gimme, gimme.

Trudeau is also legalizing the sale of dope, and the taxes on that are going to bring in gazillions of dollars.

Harper did a good job with the finances, but the pop culture won. The adult just wasn’t flamboyant.

Thomas Mulcair’s NDP got decimated in QC.

Four years after a rather impressive win in the province, it looks like a three way split there between the Liberals, Bloc and Tories.

Which is why Canada will have a Liberal minority government tonight.

Harper has not dealt with debt and deficit issues with the numbers going up and that is a criticism of him from conservative minded people, not to mention Trudeau’s potshots.

Liberals leading in 151 ridings right now....BC polls are closed and those 42 ridings are still not reporting......

The NDP has taken a beating at this point and one wonders if they will be at even 40 seats after tonight.

Voters may have just dumped the NDP to give Trudeau a strong minority government or even a bare majority.

As I said: I don’t know a lick.
Had read stories occasionally that said he’d done a good job in these rough times and just figured the ‘democratic’
voters wanted to spend and borrow more.
Oil crash couldn’t have helped him either.
