This may be considered a "quibble" but there is a significant difference:
The United states is NOT a "democracy" it is a
"Constitutional Republic"
The current occupant of the "White House" and his appointees are in the process of destroying the Constitution with an endless stream of "executive orders". The Republic is being subverted and replaced by a Marxist dictatorship...

“Getting guns off the streets” is dog-whistle code for
“Getting guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens who disagree with the liberal agenda to disarm citizens.”
Right up there with “Nobody’s coming to take your guns!!!”

Who thinks for even a single second that if we had a car buyback then no more drunk driving accidents would occur?
