ORLANDO, Fla. -- Just months before the holidays and on the heels of a great performance review, no less. A VP invites David Powers and Leo Perrero into his office, both expecting pats on the back. Instead they hear the dreaded words: You are being laid off.

"When a guillotine falls down on you, in that moment you're dead... and I was dead," says former Disney employee David Powers.

This makes me sick.....some of you may never know the gut wrenching feeling(and I hope not)of losing your pay check ...and having a family to feed.

Instead of getting mad at companies...lets blame the pols and US idf we dont get out and vote.

We can eleiminate all this crap simple by changing our tax code. problem solved.
Use H1b visas for medical techs and nurses...as it was originally designed.

I have. The manager who dropped the bombshell waited until I was in the middle of a week of vacation with my family on the other side of the state. Called me in the middle of the day while I was surrounded by my kids and wife to put the knife in...

I managed it pretty well, but did go into shock when the realization of what had just happened sunk in. Funny thing, he is a Brit immigrant....

Oh yeah, I’ve used Veeblefitzer but only the 1.9 version.

I love giving them my truthful resume... its pretty impressive on its own

I’ve written everything from databases to expert systems to GUI’s to comms to embedded systems to device drivers. there are few jobs where you can experience the joy of getting the blinkenlights to blink the correct way.

I’ve thrown stuff out of helicopters for hardened testing, done microwave laser communications from an airplane, rode around in those mining vehicles with the 2-story tall tires... and way more

I am so fortunate I can write software for a living because I’m not good at anything else.

Know that feeling well. 33 years at Grumman with glowing performance appraisals that meant nothing. They had to keep the minorities and he the women because: government mandates.

I got the last laugh though as I plan to live a long time and draw that pension. Grandfather lived to 98.

Just saw this story on Drudge. Video is excellent. Very upsetting situation—especially the $12,000 bonus. And Rubio and Cruz want to expand H-1B Visas :(

Thanks for your original post. The video was from 2007. This in fact was a conspiracy. Everyone in the video should have been prosecuted.

There was a silver lining. It forced me into a new area of IT, and it increased my marketability. The funny thing is that my old employer is a customer of my new employer, so I get the pleasure of pointing out their screwups quite frequently.

You could be the next MythBuster on the Discovery channel. Or create a Youtube version and rake in the big bucks.

I think it was Rubio tonight who had a good way to vet the H1B mess, and that is that companies must have had advertised for the job for a fixed number of months and the salary must be commensurate with existing salaries in the field.

I wouldn't stay on to train my replacement. No way, I would flat-out walk. I'd tell Disney, "Keep your severance, I fully expect you jackals to renege on it, anyway."

What is this training garbage, anyway? A competent IT guy should be able to hit the ground running. If he needs to be trained, you chose badly when hiring.
