Medicare and Medicaid would still exist if Obamacare was repealed.
Private health insurance still does exist (e.g. Cigna). And more insurers would pop up to fill market demand.
Cash on the barrel isn’t a bad idea for the long term either. Producers would pay and there are plenty of doctors who would lower their rates if paid in cash rather than having to deal with insurers.
A good example of a private market that works is the deal cut by Pennsylvania Amish with local hospitals. Their cash rates are about 1/3 what everyone else pays (a key reason being they don’t milk the system and they don’t sue).
For those Amish who can’t afford the local doctors, there’s a physician down in Mexico who set up a practice specifically tailored for the Amish. Once again, all cash. No insurance.

I will judge the success of Ryan’s leadership over the next year by how often Obama uses his veto pen. That Obama has rarely (ever?) had to use it with Boehner as speaker should tell you all you need to know about Boehner’s “leadership.”

That’s hilarious, since Ryan and his “Republican” “leadership” colleagues just conspired with the Democrats to pass a budget bill that makes Congress completely irrelevant all the way through 2017.
Looks like we are going to have to wait for Trump to take office before there is any change.
The part of Obamacare that should be rescinded and illegalized is the MANDATORY nature of the provisions.
Hell, if people want to spend twice or three times as much for the delivery of medical services, then they should be given the opportunity. But almost nobody does choose this option.
For the rest of us, poor old dummies we are, let us muddle through and buy medical services just like any other services provided for a fee to the public. And if you don’t want to use them, then the burden of paying for something you cannot and probably never will use should not be falling upon you, but onto the other guy over there who needs a sharp lesson on the credo of “you get what you pay for”.
“Opting out” is also a form of dealing with medical expenses. You or some member of your family may die because of refused services, but the chances of survival under long extended wait times for delivery of services, or inadequate services delivered, tend to diminish pretty sharply too.
I really want to believe that Ryan will eschew political expediency for what is right, now that he is the second most powerful person in America.

Women of child bearing age; smokers; homosexual club goers; people with terminal diseases. And we are all going to die someday, so unless you die in a car accident, mugging, or other sudden form of death, your last 6 months of life will be expensive.
It comes down to a question of who is going to pay too much or not enough for their insurance. Along with, should a routine visit to the doctor office be covered by health insurance, or is it like getting an oil change and not getting reimbursed by your auto insurance?
Intelligent debate on all of that could result in a health insurance model that is fair to most, and provides charity coverage to a sustainable (AND AFFORDABLE) portion of the population.
Or we could just have another shouting match with no good results. Like Obamacare.
Had a chuckle this moring as I watched Dana Bash interviewing Cruz on CNN.
Bash started a question about whether Speaker Ryan could control the House renegades and get funding for Planned Parenthood.
Simultaneously, talking as Bash was questioning, Speaker Ryan said Planned Parenthood should get no government funding.
Immediately after, Bash either did not hear or chose to ignore Speaker Ryan’s comment.
Also, Medicare and Medicaid are massive government distortions on the market, so don't pretend that it is some sort of free or private market when the two largest entities involved are run by the government. One of teh main reasons healthcare was so expensive was private insurers and cash payers subsidize the low medicare/medicaid fees by paying higher fees.
I don’t think there are enough Shovels in DC to clean up after Ryan speaks
Speaker Paul Ryan’s getting off to a good start... good for him - - and good for the country.
I will give him the benefit of the doubt, until his first move to the left or compromise with the Left or some sneaky attempt to get amnesty started.
If he is sincere, he should have 10 bills dismantling Obamacare signed and to the Senate by the end of January [giving him some extra time due to the holiday recesses — couldn’t expect Congress to miss the holidays by actually doing some legislative work, after all].
Don't put words in my mouth. I'm not pretending government programs are free or private market. I'm not endorsing Medicare or Medicaid simply by acknowledging they exist.
The fact remains that tens of millions will still have government health insurance through Medicare and Medicaid if Obamacare was repealed. You're acting as if it is the end of the world as we know it if Obamacare is repealed rather than replaced with some other socialized medicine.
If someone is uninsurable because of a preexisting condition after the repeal of Obamacare, why use the force of government to redistribute wealth to cover the condition? The fact that coverage was lost because of Obamacare doesn't justify raping other taxpayers to subsidize healthcare for those who can't get coverage in the marketplace.
If anything, it seems like you're the one who is anti-free market and just loves to have Uncle Sugar loot producers to subsidize healthcare.
