Metrojet Rules Out Technical Failure or Human Error for Crash in Sinai Peninsula

By NEIL MacFARQUHAR NOV. 2, 2015

MOSCOW — Senior officials at Metrojet, the charter airline company whose Airbus passenger plane crashed in Egypt over the weekend, killing all 224 people aboard, on Monday ruled out any technical failure or human error on the part of the airline in the catastrophe.

“We absolutely exclude the technical failure of the plane, and we absolutely exclude pilot error or a human factor,” Alexander A. Smirnov, a former pilot who is now the airline’s deputy director for aviation, said at a packed news conference in Moscow.

Mr. Smirnov said that the crash could have been caused by “an external impact on the plane,” but he said an investigation would determine the cause.

“an external impact on the plane,”

This may get the airline company off the hook, but will raise more ominous possibilities such as ISIS shootdown or onboard terrorism. Then the Syrian war will escalate. For now, it is just as likely that it is a way of panicked company saying whatever they can come up with to dodge the blame.

Isn’t ISIS putting out a video showing them shooting it down?

Or has that been dis-proven?

CNN’s aviation expert thought it had to be a bomb on-board not a missile strike.

How does it feel,Vlad? The shoe's on the other foot!

Too bad it wasn't the Dutch or the Malaysians who shot it down

Richard Quest is CNN’s expert on aviation.

This time I am going to give the terrorists the credit.
This was not your typical Russian flight crew boozing it up in the cabin.
It was either a bomb inside the plane or an advanced SAM strike.
Sometimes the Terrorists speak some truths...

the Dutch or the Malaysians

You can't rule it out if ISIS indeed did it. That organization is very "inclusive," whose members are from all around the globe. Malaysia is actually a Muslim country.

The most likely cause is explosive decompression either from a faulty cargo door or undetected structural damage over the 18 year life of the airframe.

odd that there’s been no mention of real time telemetry like some other crashes.

My observation that doesn’t make sense is that in the pictures we see no deep impact craters. Like it floated down or something.

Bomb in the aft cargo. Could be barometric or timed. It could even have been radio controlled with the real estate below an open terrorist playground.

An advanced SAM strike with its associated radars or other ELINT, in Egyptian territory heavily monitored by Egypt, Israel and the MFO - does not make sense so much as a bomb.

The plane went off the network suddenly and without mayday at 31k feet, same as PanAm 103 and India Air and probably are others - but sudden catastrophe and complete destruction at cruising altitude 31K is a relatively rare and unique occurrence

Got to look at who benefits from this act obviously directed at Russia or at this passenger list

Could be as innocuous as a crime to get a big insurance payoff from death of one of the passengers

Or could have been baggage brought on the plane by passenger with desire for revenge on Russia for a similar family loss in any number of wars

Or could be terror by IS , or IS contracted by a state actor who wishes deniability

I believe the Russians will figure it out coldly
Will assign blame and take retaliation accordingly

but the real truth, if it is a state actor who hired or abetted terrorists, , may only lie in the realm of unproven rumor

It appears that the majority of the wreckage was together in a rapid descent with very slow forward movement. The tail looks like it hit separately.

More info if accurate:

CAIRO (Reuters) - The Russian plane that crashed in Egypt was not struck from the outside and the pilot did not make a distress call before it disappeared from radar, a source in the committee analysing the flight recorders said on Monday.

The source declined to give more details but based his comments on the preliminary examination of the black boxes recovered from the Airbus A321 which crashed in the Sinai Peninsula on Saturday killing all 224 people on board.

Explosion caused tail to detach
With no tail the aircraft pitched up several thousand feet, then
forward momentum ceased and the fuselage fell like a rock
Some reports I’ve read indicated the engines were burning as the plane fell
There is helicopter video showing the scattered wreckage

The Russians have not publicly used the term terrorism but they plainly state today this was not mechanical or human error

Given the location there is plenty of evidence to gather
