At statehood, Israel kept most of the laws of the British Mandate. The law preventing immigration of Jews was rejected, and the gun laws, which in many cases carried a death sentence for possession, were changed a bit. But as you can see from the last post, there was no tradition of ownership as there there is in the US. Or recognition of it’s benefits. Completely different mindset.

Someone will know, but I think it's measured in months. With approval of your doctor, demonstration of need, and instruction in the specific handgun you're purchasing. Singular, you can own one. You'll find some people on the left advocating an Israeli style approach in the US. I presume on the assumption that most people on both sides of the political spectrum wouldn't know what that meant.
