Cruz Fought Amnesty, Rubio Fought Conservatives
Conservative Review ^ | November 13th, 2015 | Daniel Horowitz

Posted on 11/13/2015 3:11:36 PM PST by John Valentine

I remember the spring of 2013 like it was yesterday. It was one of the busiest times of my career. Republicans were working overtime to codify Obama’s open borders agenda into law, and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) was the ring leader of the effort. The voice of the people was not being heard and we were subjected to fallacious talking points on a daily basis.

...

Rubio is now suggesting that Cruz also supported amnesty because at the time of the Gang of 8 debate, Cruz introduced an amendment stripping the provision providing a path to citizenship from the bill. Rubio’s camp disingenuously submits that this act means Cruz implicitly supported legalization so long as no citizenship is involved.

Perhaps Rubio is unfamiliar with an amendment strategy when fighting legislation because he has been in very few firefights for the cause of conservatism since his election to the Senate. One way of embarrassing and exposing proponents of a bad bill is by introducing amendments to tweak the bill with changes its proponents are hard-pressed to oppose. This does not mean the senator would otherwise support the legislation if it contained those changes, it’s merely a strategy to derail the bill altogether.

The disingenuous argument that Ted Cruz supports or supported amnesty is highly current on Free Republic. I’m not sure what the motivation is among the posters propping up this lie, but I rather suspect it is because they see Ted Cruz as a potential threat to their favored candidate.

Whether that is the case or not, it remains true that these posters are, as the article puts it, "turning Cruz’s firefighting Into arson"

People can say what they want about Cruz and his proposal to increase the H1B’s in 2013, but NO ONE can dispute what happened in early 2014.

That was when OUR FAVORITE House Majority Leader, (now lobbyist) Eric Cantor came up with a bunch of immigration reform ‘principles’ that the House would vote on - which then meant negotiating with RUBIO’s Amnesty Bill in conference.

Cruz went to the House Republicans, explained to them that these ‘principles’ were, in fact, AMNESTY, without a doubt. House conservatives then revolted against Cantor, and to his credit, Speaker John Boehner SHUT DOWN THAT EFFORT.

RUBIO’s Amnesty Bill, THANKFULLY, expired with the new Congress in 2015. Say what you want about Cruz in 2013, but in 2014 he was fighting the BATTLE OF THE BULGE (politically), where we NEARLY LOST THE COUNTRY thanks to the GOPe. Cruz, SINGLE-HANDEDLY, stopped them...and BECAUSE OF CRUZ we are still able to fight this war.

Because once this issue is proven to be a wash with another candidate, all the other side is left with is a bloviating pompous ass.

Boehner didn’t back down until we Cantorized his right hand henchman.

The voters of VA-7 knew that crapweasel was about to betray us, even though he was spending huge money on lying direct mail and ads in which he claimed to oppose amnesty.

They were supposed to get the Gang bill passed to get the issue off the table so Yeb! wouldn’t have to deal with it. They knew it would be a problem.

I like Rubio’s passion. Love hearing him speak. But his gang of 8 membership, support for H1Bs and zeal to start wars for any reason exclude him from any consideration.

Rubio is like a slick salesman with no substance, has accomplished nothing of note, but like a parrot repeated memorized lines. He will be controlled by Paul Singers and other donors who certainly expect something for their contributions to him.

Rubio seems to be doubling down. Big mistake.

Cruz will have his lunch and his dinner, and next day’s breakfast as well.

For me, Trump has gone over the edge. I can’t support Rubio. Carson would be okay. I’d support Fiorina and Huckabee, enthusiastically.

But all of my support, with no hesitation whatsoever, is with Ted Cruz.

Pray for the people in Paris.

Wishful thinking that Trump will "save" them, a fantasy he's more than happy to feed.

Notice the timing ?

It’s uncanning since it seems both the Rubio camp and the Cruz haters long knives have been out for the last few days attacking Ted Cruz.

Re: “The disingenuous argument that Ted Cruz supports or supported amnesty is highly current on Free Republic.”

Damn straight it is - and it is not disingenuous!

Show me one Ted Cruz quote where he says he will deport all 12 million illegal immigrants.

Don't bother looking - there is no such quote.

I will be happy to show you Ted Cruz quotes where he says he will give temporary work permits to all illegals who have obeyed all other USA laws.

A few weeks ago, Megyn Kelly of Fox News asked Cruz directly if he would deport illegal immigrants.

Cruz refused to answer. He said her question was a distraction from more important immigration issues!

Your position is untenable and absurd. Why not take a look at what Ted Cruz has actually said instead of dreaming up cockamamie unanswered questions.

Here is a (relatively) disinterested perspective:

OK, I see where you are coming from with your “deport all 12 million illegal immigrants.” Trump has made this kind of election year promise. They’re great words, to be sure.

But you have to know that is all they are: words. Trump will never make good on these words, they are nothing more than election year blowhardism.

I read both your links.

No mention of what Cruz intends to do with the 12 million illegal immigrants currently in the USA.

And here is what your “relatively disinterested” Guardian newspaper link says:

"Cruz's new immigration plan did not address the roughly 11 million undocumented immigrants. Whereas Trump has said he would deport them all, Cruz proposed simply to "increase deportations" and multiple attempts by reporters on Friday to get more specificity were ignored.”

Cruz ignored those reporters’ questions the same way he ignored Megyn Kelly's question on the Fox News Debate.

Oh, my quote about “work permits” for illegal immigrants comes from the Houston Chronicle. It's the same quote Rubio threw at Cruz today, except I published it here at Free Republic more than one year ago.
