Berlin (dpa) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday stood by her decision to welcome refugees to Germany, saying in a live television interview that she would continue to pursue her open-arms policy.
Merkel cracked a smile at the start of the interview when a moderator from public broadcaster ZDF asked if Germany's leader had surrendered political control and lost the power to enact policy.
"The federal chancellor has the situation under control, as does the entire federal government," Merkel said.
The chancellor's expression grew sober for the rest of the interview as she acknowledged that the migration crisis gripping Germany and the EU was an "especially challenging time."
Merkel asked Germans to have patience as she was determined to move forward with what she believed was a just approach to the situation.
"I am not the first chancellor who has had to fight for something," Merkel said.
Despite pressure from members of her conservative political bloc, the chancellor said she was not prepared to set an upper limit on the number of refugees Germany can admit.

I have to go with Merkel being “Batsh#t crazy”. I believe she is far from clueless, she welcomes the chaos that Muzzies bring with them wherever they go. I have no idea why. The only thing I can think of as to why she would do it is to strip away what few rights the EU folks have left. Sorta like a protection racket.

Actually, he was, and in the same way as Merkel. When Hitler realized the war was lost he ordered the total destruction of the infrastructure of Germany, saying the German people had betrayed him and no longer had any right to live on as a nation.

I was stationed in Germany 1981-83. The German folks I knew were OK people, I went to their weddings, they regarded Americans as family, I felt at home there, heck I’m part German myself. It’s terrible what’s being done to them, and by their own government! Eine Schrecklichkeit!
