Senate Dems demand executive action on guns
Washington Examiner ^ | 11/23/15 | Anna Giaritelli

A group of 24 Senate Democrats urged the president Monday to dodge Congress and act on his own to make new rules on gun control, after Congress has failed to move any gun bills.

The senators, led by Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy of Connecticut, requested the White House take an immediate step to change the law that now allows sellers who do not have a federal license to sell guns to individuals at shows, online and elsewhere without conducting background checks.

The letter said Democrats would keep trying to pass a gun bill, but said Obama should explore options on his own in the meantime.

"We ask you, concurrently, to investigate and pursue all available options under your executive authority to reduce gun violence," they wrote. "Specifically, your administration could take an immediate step that would have an important impact on limiting gun violence. We urge you to address an aspect of the high-volume gun seller loophole that allows guns to be sold without a background check by eliminating the ambiguity surrounding the term 'engaged in the business' as it pertains to federally licensed firearms dealers."

"It would help ensure that those clearly holding themselves out as gun dealers are held to the same standard as the thousands of responsible gun dealers already licensed with [Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives] ATF across the country," the senators wrote.

The regulatory definition of "engaged in the business" would be tweaked to include all gun sellers, not just ATF-licensed individuals. Current law requires only licensed gun dealers to carry out background checks during gun sales.

In the House, Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chair Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.) sent a similar letter to the White House, with support from 114 of his colleagues.

Not very funny. He’ll try it, I don’t have a doubt in my mind. Then what? Congress is obviously in on it, courts. Where do we turn?

And please, something other than us with our firearms against the world.

Dear Senate 24 Dems,
please read the American Constitution (and a little history wouldn’t hurt). Nobody we know would ever comply with any more unconstitutional infringement on our rights, and especially not if attempted by dictatorial rather than representational means.

If you don’t like USA, please move.
(We hear there may be some room now in Syria for you)

These Democrats need to face charges of sedition or RICO in their quest to subvert the Constitution and deprive citizens of their rights.

If only there was one more law.

What a bunch of p*ssies. The cities with the harshest gun laws have the most murders. It ain’t Brain Salad Surgery you nitwits, the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

Sheesh, buy ‘em books and send ‘em to school and they eat the teacher.

Well if you think we have any support from anywhere in our government best think again...

The only support we have now is each other...against them...so whatever it is that we have to do to protect us, we best be thinking what it is we are going to do...

Also titled, “24 Dem Senators abdicate their responsibility, ask President to call for Congress to vacate, shred the Constitution and establish a dictatorship”.

He can’t change laws on his own.
I know he tries to, but he can’t.
Ignore any laws he makes up, they are not laws.

What they want to make illegal is for you or me to sell a gun to our brother, son, friend or neighbor without asking Big Brother’s permission.

Free people do not need Big Brother’s permission.

“...the president to change the law.....” by executive order.

The president does not have the power to “change the law”. Do these congressmen not understand that they should introduce a change in the law.

The president does this and he should be impeached. Period.

One other thing— if it is done, it can legally be ignored. Civil disobedience on a level no police can control

I think it was either HuffPo or Daily Beast that actually ran an article a couple weeks back suggesting that antics like this could provoke a civil war. So even portions of the Left are starting to get worried about where their fellow leftists are leading them.

And there’s no way this letter didn’t get created without the consent, and possibly at the direction, of the White House.
