Turkish fighters routinely violate Greece’s air space, by that logic Greece should start shooting down Turkish planes.

Uhmmmm... yes? What else should they do?

What would you have the USA do if Russia decides it wants to routinely fly its bombers out of Cuba over the USA on “training missions?” Just let them? Same thing applies. A warning or two and then... boom.

Turkey did invade Cyprus in 1974, they should have been kicked out of NATO for that.

Might be Erdogan’s swan song, the Russians have a long history of their enemies having sudden fatal illnesses and accidents. And if that’s what happens, it couldn’t happen to a more deserving bastard.

I don’t think Turkey was a member of NATO then but I may be wrong. I don’t think Turkey should have ever been admitted to NATO in the first place.

It was a cold war ploy to align as many nations as possible against the Soviets. No one really thought the USSR was going to go away. Once it did, Turkey wasn’t exactly vital to the alliance and should have been cut out. It should still be cut out.

Hell I'm not underestimating the bastard, I think he's underestimating how the Russians will deal with him, if he's dead he will become a non issue after the rabid muslin Turks get over it. I'm pretty sure Putin won't pull an obama and apologize and kowtow to Erdogan.

The Aviationist site was saying that it’s unclear whether it was a TuAF F-16 or a Turkish Army AA battery.

The press wouldn’t know a Sukoi 24 from ma mig 29.If it has two wings it’s a fighter plane to them.

The Sukoi 24 is a ground attack aircraft and it would have never had a chance against an F16 in a non-missile engagement.

I’m not happy that the plane was shot down, but at the same time a Turkey has the right to defend its airspace, just like the Russians would if U.S. Aircraft were flying in there airspace.

I agree it is a stab in the back. Why would Turkey not accommodate and allow Russia to use that airspace? Very curious. I am not a military expert and do not wish to see a war between Turkey and Russia, but I also think Russia should find some way to retaliate. If there are known terrorist locations in Turkey now is the time to take them out.

Turkey has military assets in Syria fighting along side Obama's Christian slaughtering, children raping rebels who are fighting against the Syrian military...

Russia is there to protect Syria...Ederogan and Obama are set to destroy Syria and install an element of the Muzlim Brotherhood as they did in Libya and temporarily in Egypt...

This is a proxy war between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Obama against Russia...

Justified in your mind. The overflight was a most a few moments, and the plane posed no threat whatever to Turkey, and the Turks knew it. The Turks were savages under the Ottomans, and they are reverting to that now by their not-so-clandestine support of Jihadis.

Justified in my mind and in international law. Whether or not the Turks are savages (they are) is not the point. The Russians flew into Turk airspace and got shot down. Lesson for the Russians: stay out of sovereign airspace unless they have permission to use it. Hours, seconds, moments... irrelevant. They have been warned by Turkey on several occasions for such infractions.

Sometimes a barking dog — even it is a toy poodle — will bite.

They, the Russians, ignored the barking and went where they were not allowed. They got bit.

I will just let the Kremlin know that achilles2000 says the Russians can use U.S. airspace anytime they feel like it.

If you think Russia is the good guy and just wants to destroy the evil Islamists then you are a bit misguided. Putin is expanding the Russian sphere of influence any way he can to regain the “glory” of the old USSR. He is filling the vacuum left by Obama.

The fact that Putin is blowing up bad guys in the process is a happy side affect in the short-term. Long term, however, Russia is on the move. The work of Reagan in collapsing the USSR has been undone by the Marxist/Islamist in the White House. Putin is simply using Obama’s weakness to his every advantage.

In a perfect world, the Russians will destroy Islamic terrorism and be destroyed in the process. One plane at a time.

So, you defend the shooting down of KAL 007 under “International Law”? What specific “International Law” are you referring to? It’s obvious that the overflight was inadvertent...and the Soviets did overfly US airspace slightly on occasion, typically with TU-95s, and we didn’t shoot them down. We just escorted them out. BTW, what is “International Law” today? Do you care to defend the nonsense coming out of the UN, Brussels, and other transnational organizations as the last word on moral judgments in these matters? Turkey has been supporting Islamic terrorism, which is sufficient reason to take whatever measures are necessary to stop them from interfering with the war on ISIS.

There was no hostile intention and nothing to defend. This was an effort to help the Turkmen Brigade fighting with the Jihadis. We had Soviet overflights and didn’t shoot the aircraft down. We escorted them out.

You really are an open borders kind of guy, aren’t you? National sovereignty-shmovereignty. If you don’t object to military aircraft violating a nation’s borders you certainly wouldn’t object to a nation’s ground forces violating them, would you? What’s the difference? They are just troops passing through. Perhaps a few Russian tank divisions passing through Poland to get some towel heads in the Ukraine? Maybe they stop for a short breather while in Poland. And never leave.

Obama and Congress, representing the United States have supported radical Islamists at every opportunity. Surely, I don’t have have to provide you an exhaustive list of examples. Therefore, we can just let any old country take whatever measures necessary to stop us. On U.S. soil. Correct?

You don’t like the Turks. I get it. I don’t either. I also don’t like the Russians. Do I care if Russia bombs the crap out of Turks supporting ISIS? Nope. Do I care if Turkey shoots down Russian planes over Turkey? Nope.

“Defending” borders doesn’t mean that you shoot down planes that are no threat at all, unless you think the KAL 007 murders were a righteous action by Breshnev’s Soviet UNion. I am a “closed” border kind of guy, and I would deport every last illegal. But, I’m not going to shoot illegals coming across the border that are doing nothing more than coming across the border. In fact, illegals are vastly more of a threat to us than those 2 pilots were to Turkey. At least the Russians weren’t going to use Turkey’s public services, etc. I would add that there is some dispute as to whether the plane actually was over Turkish territory, or over Syrian territory that Turkey claims. The crash was 4 km from the border, so I would say that the Turkish claims perhaps should be taken at face value. But even if the pilots were over Turkish territory for a few moments, there is no civilized justification for trying to kill them - although I understand that the Turks’ jihadi friends took care of it for them. Perhaps you think if a unit of the RMCP gets lost and crosses the border while pursuing a criminal we should shoot them or shoot down Canadian planes that stray momentarily into our airspace.

Jehovas Witnesses percecuted in Russia the Orthofox state: http://forum18.org/archive.php?article_id=2128

Russia is now the epicenter of the orthodox vs protestant divide and this may spill over. Russians fight for an orthodox country now, not for the glory of the dark old days of soviet supremacy.
