Cruz surges in Iowa

Ted Cruz, buoyed by tea party support and the backing of much of the conservative wing of the Republican Party, has surged to a virtual tie with Donald Trump in Iowa, generating the kind of momentum his team thinks will carry him deep into primary season.

“Sixty-eight days until Iowa,” said Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier, when asked whether the Texas senator was peaking too soon. “It’s game time.”

A Quinnipiac University survey released Tuesday found Cruz essentially deadlocked with longtime poll-leader Donald Trump in Iowa: Trump stood at 25 percent and Cruz at 23 percent, within the margin of error. That’s more than double Cruz’s standing in the Oct. 22 Quinnipiac poll...

Cruz’s team was counting on this.

...focusing on fundraising, announcing last month that he had more cash on hand than any other GOP candidate. Now, his campaign is boasting one of the most robust operations in the country, with more than 100,000 volunteers nationwide and 2,500 in Iowa. He’s also organized in every county in the first four voting states.

That level of organization has convinced leading conservatives that Cruz’s campaign can keep up with his rising numbers, and that he is not a flash-in-the-pan candidate in a cycle that has already seen a number of boom-and-bust contenders, including Scott Walker.

“Ted is making all the right moves,” said Tony Perkins

What worries me about Trump is who he might pick for the Supreme Court. I don’t believe he’d pick a true conservative and we don’t need anymore libs.

A few days ago, I mentioned that Trump was the only candidate who pledged deportation of illegals. I was immediately called a liar by a poster, and the accusation was all he needed to maintain his delusion.

Today on Hannity’s program, Jamie Dupree mentioned that one of the things that separated Cruz from Trump was that Cruz had not come out for deportation of illegals.

Will everyone who is about ready to stroke out on this, please contact Jamie Dupree and give me a rest.

We are still over two months away. Relatively few are really committed to a candidate yet. It all comes down to who turns out on caucus night.

Show me a poll where Cruz is leading 25% to 23% and I’ll be a believer.

Wasn't Carson way in the lead last week?

Have you noticed the crowds that Trump speaks too? Not only that maybe you notice that no one is going to sleep at his rallies.

During some of the October polling in Iowa Carson had an 8-10 point lead.
But that has faded away.

Plus he doesn’t make gaffes. So no, he*s not a flash-in-the-pan.

Oh yeah new national poll about to come out. This is what it looks like. ;-)

And Walker was the favorite a few months ago. Things can change, especially if Cruz takes Iowa. It will be impossible for the media to ignore him and he will be perceived as a potential winner. Cruz has also spent a lot of time and effort in the southern states that follow shortly after SC.

Trump has deep, broad-based support but high negatives, limiting growth. Cruz has high favorables, low negatives (yes, it's true) and is viewed by most as presidential. He has greater upside potential in the primary.

If it was ever real, which I doubt.

I have long felt that polls are not for reporting peoples opinion but for validating the pollsters opinion.
