ERROR: I misread the publication date. It is 2004 not 2014. This is a bit dated.

The only caliber I have absolute confidence in is the .45 ACP. Everything else is second best.

Yet another study in which the 10mm doesn’t seem to exist.

Liberty Ammo is, IMO, better than any of the tested ammo on those charts. Low-grain loads, far less recoil, much faster fps, massive cavity damage, very easy to double-tap...

Watch the gel tests; plenty available on YT.

When it comes to handguns, in the end it is all about placement - Practice, Practice, Practice!

My 44 Mag does a pretty good job.

I sure wish that the ccw classes covered....penetration stats better....I think travel capacities for the various rounds should be a major portion of the classes....

most of the ball ammo will travel through the walls...and into other houses......at least hollow point should be loaded for in house defense....imo

Yes it does and I own one. But even if I could conceal a 4 inch Model 429 it would not be anything close to comfortable.

I could never understand why it isn’t more popular. Dad has a Wilson Hunter in 10mm with the double compensator that I consider the most impressive handgun I’ve ever fired. One day I’ll hit the lottery and be able to afford stuff like that myself. I have a Dan Wesson RZ-10 in 10mm and like it an awful lot too... I’m just not willing to leave it rolling around in the glove box of my car. It sits on my nightstand and never goes any further.

I think it can be argued that there’s ultimately more to it than shot placement though good shot placement is the key factor in dropping the bad guy. Sometimes you need to be able to shoot through walls or other barriers or even the full length of a beefy outstretched arm for example. Penetration, therefore, is a very important factor in assessing handgun “stopping power”. Indeed, penetration is the primary manner in which a handgun bullet destroys tissues. my $.02.

I prefer the XDS.

The sights don’t suck like Glock sights do.

The trigger doesn’t suck like Glock triggers do.

It costs less than this Glock.

You get more, spare mags, loading tool, and a Kydex holster.

Just my two cents.

I was thinking JHPs, myself. But they might not feed well in automatics.

To me, it's all about how it fits my hand, and if it isn't a good fit, it isn't worth my money or time.

Yes. And there is always wound channel size. You get a bigger channel with a .45 JHP than with with 9mm ball.
But still, a small hole in the center of the chest (or head) is probably better than a bigger hole in the calf or arm.

I agree. It’s why I don’t care for Glocks. I grew up on 1911s and could never get used to the grip angle on Glocks. The XD line is much closer to the angle of a 1911 so I don’t have to relearn all that muscle memory.
