Good point on the carry load. I didn’t take any JHPs with me on this trip. So far I’ve only run about a dozen of those.
Just received my Fobus Model SP11B holster for it. Fits like a glove. (I’ve become a real Fobus fan over the last couple of weeks. I’ve got one now for each of my carry pieces.)
I too like my CZ-82. Best $200 I ever spent (thanks to mylife and the guys on the GunTalk thread recommending them).
I know it’s expensive but get at least 50 of each carry load candidate. Make sure they function without issues and then pick the most accurate. My XDS really likes the Remington Ultimate 230 grain stuff. Yes, buying 3 boxes just to test them hurt. But I know they work.
Mrs L has one of those 82s stashed in her Get Me Home bag in her car. I did a review of it here after I bought mine. I’ll see if I can dig it up and I’ll ping you if you’d like.
Best,
L
Lurker, now that you mention it, I remember reading your review!
I now wish I’d bought half a dozen of them. LOL.
But I wish the same thing about the Ishapore Enfields when I only bought two. I paid $200 a copy IIRC. Sweet shooting rifles.

I have the snub version of the 101 and it handles the recoil of the magnum loads pretty well. If I carry a .38Sp I usually carry a S&W model 642 or Colt Det. Special, gives me an extra round in a Mika pocket holster. For .38sp I have been experimenting with some hand loads to get some more ump out of them, still working on a carry load.
I am partial to a S&W model 19-4 with target grips, and shoot 158 grain loads for practizing, but 125 grain for defense. I also like the S&W model 28-2, it’s got the 6 inch barrel and the big target grips, eats recoil with magnum loads. I have a 686 and like it but I usually go back to the model 19 or 28.
With the short barrels you lose that extra velocity like you said. About the only way to get decent velocities is a hand loaded round or Buffalo Bore ammo.
