GOP in panic over Trump
The Hill ^ | 11/27/2015 | Niall Stanage

Posted on 11/27/2015 7:02:29 PM PST by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

The Republican establishment is nearing full-blown panic about Donald Trump.

The demise of Trump's candidacy has been predicted by centrist Republicans and the media alike virtually since the day it began. But there is no empirical evidence at all to suggest it is happening.

Last month, the liberal ThinkProgress collated more than 30 predictions of the business mogul's imminent demise. One typical example was The Washington Post's Jonathan Capehart, who discerned "the beginning of the end of Trump" in mid-July, soon after the mogul criticized the Vietnam War record of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.)

Despite all that, Trump has led the RealClearPolitics (RCP) polling average in a virtually unbroken spell for four months. The only person to briefly wrest the lead away from him, Dr. Ben Carson, appears to be fading. And numerous polls show Trump drawing double the support of his closest establishment-friendly rival, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.)

Add to all this the fact that Trump's lead over the rest of the GOP field has expanded since the terrorist attacks in Paris, and it becomes clear why anxiety among his many Republican critics is reaching new heights.

"He has a real shot at this. He is the clear front-runner," said Ron Bonjean, a consultant and former aide to GOP leaders on Capitol Hill.

Adding that "months ago, we all discounted Trump as a candidate," Bonjean now acknowledged that it seems "safe to assume that he is going to continue with this strong momentum right into Iowa."

The Iowa caucuses are set for Feb. 1, a little over two months away. Voters tend to pay less attention to politics over the holiday season than at other times, a trend that makes dramatic shifts in the race less likely during that period.

GOP centrists? None of their moderate, milquetoast candidates have ever won a presidential election.

They can’t showcase Bush I, Dole, McCain and Romney. If they were elected, they might have a point.

What’s really funny is Trump is the dream candidate out of Central Casting, who has taken as many liberal as conservative positions. He appeals to both ends of the political spectrum and also to working class folks.

With the huge crowds he draws, GOP political consultants should be running to hop aboard his campaign if only to find out what makes him tick.

Yet the establishment is in a panic when they have an electable candidate on their hands. I don’t know why Trump discombobulates them so much.

Let’s not forget the same crowd loathed Reagan and dismissed him as a two bit crank.

Trumps Mother in Law is more attractive, and more interesting looking than Jebs wife.

I can’t begin to fathom how misguided Jeb must have been.

I’m inclined to vote for Trump to give the GOP establishment my middle finger.

I never thought we’d see high octane politics in the GOP since Reagan left the scene.

For some reason or another, every one else in line in the past made me fall asleep.

Trump savages every one and we’re told this isn’t how a GOP candidate is supposed to win over the moderates and independents.

I love it and to my surprise, he just keeps getting better and better as the virtual primary season is drawing down curtains.

They should bring out Juan McCain, who should tell everyone that Trump is an honorable man, and that they (the RINOs) have no need to fear him. Oh, but wait; McCain would never do that for a conservative; only for our commie President Hussein Obama.

They should quit turning and tossing.

Mrs. Ugly Pantsuits will be our next President.

Its what they want. Time for them to grab the Maalox and calm down.

I understand your frustration, my good FRiend.

I, too, extend the age-old gesture of ill will toward the GOP establishment (meaning Jeb and Marco, mainly.)

That said, Mister Trump is highly lacking in the statesmanship and dignity columns, which would be important not only for winning the general election, but also for effective governance.

It's fine with me if someone (just as with Mister Trump) has the manners of a billy goat, if he can move the political line of scrimmage to the right (on issues such as amnesty for illegal aliens and common core and Second Ammendment.)

However, come voting time, I want someone who can comport himself (or herself) with dignity and respect for the office.

For me (at least as if this moment) that candidate is Ted Cruz.

When you get the chance, consider giving this man a fair chance at winning your approval.

I like Cruz but I don’t think he stands a chance against Hillary.

Deportment and being nice are not going to win the election.

We need someone who has a take no prisoners style of campaigning and doesn’t care who he offends.

That man is Trump. And let’s face it, the demographics in this country have changed.

Hillary is still guaranteed an Electoral College rout, the only vote that matters.

I understand what you are saying, my FRiend (not saying that I totally agree, of course)

Trump does well with Conservatives like you and I because he says what so many candidates are afraid to say (we really, rally want that wall, and an air-tight, secure border - just for example.)

It is possible to be for those things without being petulant, whiny, abrasive, and abusive. (It is also possible to do one's homework).

I like many of the things that Trump espouses (and I suspect that I like them more than does he. In other words, he might be trying to attract conservative votes for an intentionally losing cause.)

Proof? If (and I believe "when" Mister Trump announces a third-party, indy candidacy, then we will know for sure that he is a poseur, and a super salesman, and the 2016 edition of Ross Perot).

When he announces as a third party, then I will vote for him rather than another GOPe candidate! That says more that you seem to say.

What that actually says is the the GOP has left the party that they were suppose to represent and yes, you will eventually see a third party Representative elected because we not longer have one!

I no longer want another Democratic light party to represent me!

They're running scared. The Liberal media already in a tizzy trying to take down Trump, but forget when Obama mocked the special Olympics.

Typical crap from the usual suspects.

yeah, they say GOP in panic and quote Jonathon Capehart? And then the GOP guy is complimentary. Dumb headline.

I don’t doubt some GOP e types are in panic, but this was a stupid article.

It is perfectly OK to not trust Trump. The reality is, tens of thousands are flocking to Trump rallies every day. He has lined up 5 rallies in 5 days! All tickets get sold out fast. I wonder if those people show up because they trust Trump, or are just curious to see him. Trump gives the same thematic speech in every rally, but it sounds different because he avoids using teleprompters.

And so will all his other supporters, Indies and Dems. That’s what the GOP is in a tizzy about. Trump is prob the only candidate that can run third party and actually win.

Cruz would actually be more effective ad powerful in a Trump administration. Think of Trump as a bulldozer followed by Cruz as a armored HUMVEE fitted with laser guided missiles. As AG, I think Cruz would legally tear apart DC and Trump would give him cover.

Wait a minute. I hear Trump and his son were walking the future first beagle in Central Park. The dog caught and ate a grasshopper. PETA is requesting Trump be charged for animal cruelty over the dead insect. How dare a rich dog eat such a snack!

Headline:

TRUMP STARVES FAMILY PET - DOG COMMITS CRIMES AGAINST NATURE TO SURVIVE HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT

Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other FReeloader

PS - If you are one of those who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....

GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!

Donate to FR

Donate to Cruz
