Jamal Bryant to end his House campaign

Sept. 2015

Saying that his church is his first priority, the Rev. Jamal H. Bryant said Tuesday that he is bowing out of a campaign for Congress he launched just eight days ago.

Bryant, the 44-year-old pastor of the Empowerment Temple in Northwest Baltimore, surprised many by announcing Sept. 14 that he would seek the Democratic nomination for the 7th Congressional District. That seat is currently held by Rep. Elijah E. Cummings.

Prior to his role as pastor, Bryant served as the director of the NAACP’s youth and college division.

Bryant has a daughter, Topaz (born in 1998), with an Atlanta woman named Crystal Madison.

In summer 2007 rumors exploded in the church that Jamal had gotten a 17-year-old church member pregnant.

After Michelle Wedderburn filed for a child support increase, he finally acknowledged that he had fathered a daughter named Naomi with her in 2001.

In January 2008, Gizelle filed for divorce, but later cancelled the filing on January 24. In 2010 Gizelle attended Empowerment Temple and was called wife and first lady by Jamal, causing many to wonder if they had divorced. In 2012, Jamal Bryant was interviewed by Roland Martin concerning his affair and divorce where Bryant confirmed that they were divorced, good friends and were co-parenting their children well. He stated in the interview that had he not divorced her he knows he would have been unfaithful again.

Bingo!

“...and you know you don’t want your church to accidentally burn down...”

There’s a lot more than meets the eye here.

The folks that attended the meeting were treated with respect. They got to address their issues, and Trump seems to have responded in ways they appreciated and respected.

Seems like a win/win to me.

50% unemployment in young Blacks. Who could possibly have a question to ask of Trump on that issue? LOL

Someone is complaining that as Trump said “it was a Love fest”, he treated them as Pastors and not whores, with respect. And no “street money” was given for attendance.

Sounds like one of the Pastors wasn’t in step with the spirit of this meeting.

He has his “women” to support and expected Trump to line his pockets with Gold.

Any time you can expose a fraud in public its a good day.

I think the Black pastors who support Trump know who's being exploited and by who.

If Trump is elected Blacks have a sterling opportunity to finally get off the Democrat plantation.

Far too many Blacks still don't know it was the Democratic Party who created the KKK.

For some of you younger folks that's the Ku Klux Klan and they were not, and are not, pro Black.

In the end, they wanted some money. Must have been Al ‘Sharpy’ Sharpton whispering in their ears. Typical.

However, how many conservatives really want to see them “happy and successful” in that it would require jobs that aren’t there and those few that would never pay enough to make anyone “happy and successful.”

You have a point, but remember, the massive bloated pig of oversized, unconstitutional government is why there are fewer jobs to be had. It's a problem that must be attacked from all angles. One cannot expect to keep the freebies flowing while trimming the excess from the government, because the freebies are the majority of the excess.

I am one that watches the black community with aching in my heart, knowing they used to be the proudest, most staunchly pro-family conservative factions in America in earlier history, and seeing what freebies have done to their social structure, and their lives. "Happy and successful" doesn't necessarily equal "good paying jobs." It often means merely having strong families, and values. We really need to bring back biblical values in schools. That would help a lot in the happy and successful category.

“But getting many ghetto residents off the gov. gravy train might force many of them to actually exert some effort as far as studying in school, learning a trade, or presenting themselves to prospective employers as employable workers.”

You are making my point by the attitude expressed. Too many hypotheticals in your statement that will not happen.

I don’t like the welfare state myself and do see it as a vote machine by DEMs. However, I do not think there is any true “good will” by those that would end it. It isn’t, IMO, about getting them out of ghettos as so many say, it is about cutting costs and/or taking away the DEMS voting base.

I just think folks should be honest and stop using disingenuous rhetoric.

CNN is doing everything they can to start a race war.

With Obama's blessing.

Yes, but my point is: why should other people have to care? You're trying to make the point that many people just want them to stop causing trouble and don't really care about their future or whatever. Sure, many don't care, but many do care. There's no way you can know who is or isn't.

But again my point there's been trillions spent trying to improve the lives of these people. It's not up to the millions of other Americans of whatever color to "care" about these people like they would their own families.

Lack of care or concern from other people is not ghetto residents' worst problem. The problem is with themselves. If they cared more about improving themselves, other people might care more for them.

“It’s not up to the millions of other Americans of whatever color to “care” about these people like they would their own families.”

You are being honest in that statement. That is what honest folks should be saying. The rhetoric that bothers me is the false piety to the tune that, “cutting off their welfare will make them get a job and improve their lives.” This won’t make anyone’s life “better” except those that will have to possibly pay less tax to support them. Or those in political groups other than the DEMS that have the ghetto vote shored up by the DEMS largess at the expense of all. The DEMS are indeed buying votes.

I am not defending the poor in inner cities or elsewhere that have no desire to work when they can live off the federal and local welfare systems. However, I will not defend fellow conservatives that use false rhetoric about “improving lives” to defund them either. Of course, as you point out, there are those that say this and truly believe it to be true.

I do not know what the solution is. I just want fellow conservatives to be honest.
