I agree, but if you are a member of a political party, you can influence possibly who the candidate will be. Primaries are important. The problem with backing a politician is when you vote one in, the pol follows the party dictates not the platform upon which they ran.
I am an inaugural member of the Tea Party. But they do not have primaries and hopefully can influence the GOP better than my one vote.

Kind of like the outcome of a trial. One of the biggest components of the result is the jury selection. Often the election results are determined by the nomination process. This year's nomination is supposed to be Hillary, a neocon, against a Republican neocon. That way the "fix is already in."
BTW, Trump is screwing it all up. God bless him.
