Catholics shouldn’t support Trump’s ban on Muslims, bishop says

ROME — The threat of terrorism must be confronted sensibly and not by restrictions based on religion, which ultimately threaten religious freedom and incite more violence, said Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore, chairman of the US bishops’ Ad Hoc Committee for Religious Liberty.

“As citizens and as believers, Christians and Catholics in the United States cannot possibly countenance” denying people entry into the country due solely to religious affiliation, he told Catholic News Service.

Lori was in Rome for a Dec. 10-12 international conference on Christian persecution in the world, held at the Pontifical Urbanian University.

While the continuing threat of terrorist acts in the West by Islamic State has caused security concerns, restricting religious liberty in countries like the United States, he said, could lead to policies that make matters worse.

The archbishop was asked about the increasing climate of fear in the wake of terrorist attacks, as reflected, for example, in recent remarks by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who called “for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on” and better understand possible threats. Such proposals, the archbishop said, have raised “great religious freedom alarms.”

Lori said that although there are growing security concerns and a fear of terrorism, denying entry into a country based solely on religious affiliation may only worsen the situation.

“I think those things have to be addressed in sensible ways,” he said. To address growing security threats, the archbishop stressed that governments must do so in “ways that do not, in fact, make this situation worse by inciting more violence.”

Maybe the Catholic priests should ask their Assyrian and Coptic brothers how things are going when Muslims are in charge.

Both have good ideas in regards to the refugees.

But give Mr. Trump CREDIT, at least he said what NEEDED to be said, even if it OFFENDS.

Other than religion, there is no unifying force or thread among the terrorist groups, ISIS, AlQuada, Taliban, Hamas, etc., etc., etc. That is the only way they can be grouped, not by race or nationality. So religion is all that is left to us to use as a winnowing filter.

Why should I give trump credit? Sen. Cruz came out with his proposal first and it includes a much longer time period, it’s more focused and easier for folks to accept. But the media at the time was still fixated on everything out of trump’s mouth.

Sad. Many of our shepherds are allowing the wolves to come in and scatter and eat “their” sheep. What did Jesus say about hired shepherds? I’m not giving up though.

Last I heard from the awful Catholic church their creepy old Argentinian marxist Pope was sliming around my homeland demanding we open our borders and commit suicide.

He needs to stick to doing his job and mind his own business when it comes to politics.

Do the Catholic church leaders really have that short of a memory? Do they not study history, their own included, in seminary?

Pope Francis is going to visit Mexico in the near future. He will visit the US-Mexico border to speak up about the need of Mercy to migrants crossing into America.

Of course he’s against the ban on immigrants. Catholic Charites receives a ton of taxpayer money “resettling” immigrants.

As you can see on this financial statement, Catholic Charities of Baltimore had total revenues of $150,000,000 last year. Of that, $116,000,000 CAME FROM TAXPAYERS. Total Employee Compensation was $101,167,206.

Click on the “financial statements” tab on the left of the page:

http://www.catholiccharities-md.org/about-us/

You can got to page 4 of this PDF and you can see for yourself. Page 7 shows their total compensation.

http://www.catholiccharities-md.org/about-us/financial-information/final-financials.pdf

Democrats love Catholic Charities and Catholic Charities love democrats. The government uses Catholic Charities as a front to place immigrants and refugees at our expense. And Catholic Charities lines their pockets with taxpayer dollars.

This same thing is happening all of the USA under the name of Catholic Charities and a few other so-called religious organizations.

It makes me mad as can be that they’re undermining the citizens of the USA for their personal gain.

Francis has deliberately appointed bishops who were already on record in favor of Communion-for-abortionists.

Is the old creep going to tell the government of Mexico how they need to support and settle the migrants, or is he going to lecture Americans on how we have to become Mexico.

Not really a question.

He would have been more honest if he had addressed the US total inability to track “refugees”, (all male, strong, young), from abroad, because THERE IS NO DATA BASE at the points of origin!

How many times do we have to say it!

The USCCB never addresses the facts, the dangers, the expense of carrying free loaders who hate us. They just preach around the danged edges and miss the train coming straight up their nose, like deer caught in headlights.

Clue? Clue? Anyone? Clue?

Whenever Archbishop Cupich talks about abortion, he says to be truly pro-life, you must be also pro-green peace, pro-gun control, pro-Obama care, and pro-tax the rich. Cupich says Communion is not the place for having debates about minor things. Cupich often speaks out against people who use harsh rhetoric toward migrants. He should asked if he supports denying Communion to Trump supporters. I bet he says yes.
