The Super Redhawk in .454 Casull is great. Light 45LC loads or huge .454 Casull. Very sturdy. No comp. That turns out to be favorable for shooting plated rounds. The S&W 460 with a comp will spin the plating right off (and in your face). The .454 Casull 300 gr @ 1500 fps from Hornady is a quite stout load. A 200 gr plated over 37 gr of Win296 is hot, but pleasant. Launches bowling pins like a champ. Mine comes in the original "Target Gray".

The gap between cylinder and frame is pretty wide, but the forcing cone seems to be a fine fit. My 686+ has over 20,000 rounds down the barrel. There is some slight erosion on the backstrap inline with the cylinder gap. I prefer a real stainless steel frame. The prospect of a polymer backstrap getting damaged by the hot gases from the cylinder gap seems to be a deficiency in the design. Most people will never put 20,000 rounds through a single firearm. I put over 400 rds per week on a single 686+.

Yes it is. And it is an L-frame, so it isn't as big as the N-frame in the 627 and R8 models.
