In order to graduate from high school in Louisiana, students will soon be required to apply for federal financial aid for college.

The state's Board of Elementary and Secondary Education approved the new graduation prerequisite earlier this month, and the new policy will go into effect beginning with the class of 2018.

I attend college now and they bug me constantly to fill out a FAFSA. I can see a time coming when they will demand it as part of registration so you can get a 1099-T at the end of the year.

What does earning your diploma have to do with applying for federal financial aid for college? Bizarre.

I know their intent but it’s a reach to use that means to achieve their socialistic goals.

What if you have no plans for college or you don’t need financial aid?

From the article...

The new policy was adopted, in large part, to significantly increase the number of students who go to college in the midst of a national hiring trend that’s requiring more employees to have postsecondary degrees.

Since the Supreme Court decided it is racially discriminatory to give people aptitude tests for jobs (Griggs vs. Duke Power) the employers must rely on something else to measure the quality of applicants. A college diploma was the replacement for the aptitude test. That is why so many employers want a college degree for positions that should not require one. They avoid running afoul of the federal racial discrimination police.

Does that not apply to government? I know the police and fire depts here still have a bunch of aptitude and physical tests.

The problem is a fafsa form has your parents income and real estate info. What if the parents refuse to provide it for their kids (since no aid is needed). No diploma?

Those forms require the parents to disclose all of their financial information. So if a parent says “Get lost to that” then the students can’t graduate I guess.

This is Highly Insane and unconstitutional.

When the first of my three kids applied for admittance to a University, I looked at the FAFSA. I said “no way am I filling that out”

$200k later, I’ve graduated 3 kids from state schools. I paid the tuition. It hurt a lot, but we managed. But I made it quite clear to my kids that when their respective Universities asked them for money that it was a “fee for service” arrangement, and that they ripped them and me off, so they were not to donate a penny to any of their alma maters until they’d paid me back.

What are these folks thinking?

The gummint is very selective about applying that to themselves. The usual practice is to show that some particular skill is required for the job so that if one cannot do it one should be disqualified. But the equality lawyers are trying to get rid of that, too. Private employers can do that too, but they need to extra careful that they don’t run afoul of the racial ambulance chasers of the EEOC.

Or someone saying they are going to vo-tech or the military, so no college application is required.

As Revel just posted, they probably can’t graduate. The next step will be to imprison those who do not fill out the form.
