Hello there, average American Christmas reveler. Things are looking good for the homestretch: You've got your tree all set, perhaps a few lights strung up around the yard to show the neighbors that life's good, and you're dealing with mild, but totally manageable anxiety about whether Amazon's going to pull through for you today or not. You've got a lot of good things on your plate. With all this #gratitude, it seems like an appropriate time for a quick reminder that beneath the veneer of holiday goodness, we're all still horrible, gluttonous people.

Exhibit A: Your Christmas Lights. (via the Center for Global Development).....

You could have squeeze another “insane” in there, as the first word of the sentence.

That would just be crazy. :)

The USA can’t continue to be the Santa Claus and policemen for the entire world.

Yeah, I'd rather they were the gunslinger.

BANG!

I’m doing my part by only using incandescent Christmas lights.

Given the advent of LEDs, I doubt this is even true.

(which would never stop a lying leftwing RATagandist)

If it wasn’t for the United States would they even have electricity? Perhaps but I think a whole lot of the technology came from here initially and certainly manufacturing that made it available on a large scale.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS ARE STILL CHEAPER THAN LOUDSPEAKERS 5 TIMES A DAY 365 DAYS A YEAR.

That tears it!! We need sensible Chrostmas Lights control laws. No more light sales without background checks and certainly we need to close the light show loop hole.

Even though you are wasting electrons and destroying the planet with your music production tools, albeit not as much as the environmental wacko hypocrite totalitarians who want to turn us into North Korea, what software do you use? I record, edit and remix live church music and I have managed to produce a handful of what I think are good recordings over the years and I'm just curious about what software, hardware you use in your production.

Cordially,

Midi based. Reaper 5 for the DAW. Can’t beat the price and it is ungodly (pardon the pun ;) powerful/versatile. Foucusrite 18i20 interface with a Behringer ADA 8200 ADAT into the Focusrite. Mackie VLZ3 1604 board. MOTU 8 channel midi box. Yamaha HS5 monitors.

I have a Roland Integra 7 feeding 8 channels of synth into the Mackie and a Yamaha TX81z FM synth for all the DX7 type needs. The other 7 channels are for whatever needs doing at the time. Various BOSS pedals and rack effects, but I mostly record raw and then do FX in the box.

Fun little setup. Not SSL/Neve level of toys but it makes me warm and fuzzy ;)

And science writers crank out more passive-aggressive holiday copy than all the banana slugs in the world.

Other things Americans have that starving people in third and fourth world countries don’t have:

(put list here)

Life is not a zero sum game. Just because Americans have it and others do not does not mean that Americans should feel bad.
