Southern California does get real weather. Sometimes.
We had record cold yesterday and we're looking at possible rain tonight. Today's high temperature wasn't expected to break 60. That's not a Midwestern blizzard. But it's weather.
The National Weather Service said Sunday's low temperature of 36 degrees at USC tied the station's all-time record low, set in 1916.
Overnight, federal forecasters warned of a "cold air mass" that pushed temperatures in Los Angeles County valleys to the lower to mid-30s. Same went for the Santa Monica Mountains, they said.
The Ojai Valley in Ventura County was expected to see low temps in the mid-20s.
"Those who live in areas where near or below freezing temperatures are expected should take action to protect sensitive plants and crops," the NWS said in a statement. "Also provide pets and livestock with proper shelter."
Freezing and near-freezing temps were expected again overnight, but with the added drama of possible rain. A low-pressure system was moving in from the north, but forecasters were unsure if it would bring significant precipitation.

Too late! It was warm until now so global warming is real I don’t care how cold it gets later in the year. /s
I am in Garden Grove, about 5 miles from Disneyland, last night we were at 37 degrees and hit 59 today tonight might hit 36. Nothing compared to the midwest but chilly for SoCal. Suck it gore!
Hey I was looking for a sweater. It got down to 71 degrees Fahrenheit last night.
That’s cold for a tropical island. I’ve not had AC on for three days!
Enjoy the cold weather. It kills off the black widow spiders.
I’m impressed. I’m 790 miles north of you and surrounded by snow on the mountain tops and we barely made your temp today. Normally we’d like to go south to avoid the cold and wet and for outside activities.
Ahhh! I didn’t know that. Nits, too?
I don't have that much fear of them, I had egg sacks of Brown Widows like crazy around my house and garden, when I still had a house and never had trouble.
I’m still barefoot at 36 degrees... That’s t-shirt weather. No sympathy for you here.
All I know is when we have a warm winter in AZ, we have a lot of black widows the next spring. I don’t know if it kills them but it sure slows down their reproduction.
It was about 85 here today. Time to head to the beach.
Wow. USC is not that far from the coast. Is that an all time ever record or just all time for that day ? We are getting down to 20 F here.
It’s in the 20’s here tonight...I.E...baby, it’s cold outside. Damn global warming.
I’m in Salt Lake County. It hasn’t been above freezing for a week.
Hey, neighbor, we are in Garden Grove as well.
N.E. Oklahoma.....
We have had only one day of actual snow so far here in Ohio. There were bikers out on Christmas eve. It was 36 degrees with moderate sleet yesterday so winter is trying to break through. Hoping this all translates into a long hot summer.
Global warming...in Tampa Bay area, we have 6 straight days of above average temperatures...next year, USC might have record highs while Tampa could be having record cold...
Sunny, calm skies.
Paradise is....y'all come.
Leni
8 feet of snow in the mountains here in Oregon. Guess the GW drought is over.
Pray America wakes
