The left has been losing control of the discussion as the “interwebs” have ruined it for them.

Why can we no longer agree to disagree- because it is no longer possible to do so. Our nation was peculiar in that it was held together by a few commonly held ideas. Once those ideas were no longer held in common.... *poof* no more nation. And so it is. I can look upon a leftist northeasterner and see someone who doesn’t talk like I do, doesn’t believe like I do, and with whom I have no common ideas. So much for the ‘United’ States....

Liberals claim their views are love, and the opposition is hate.
You can’t have a reasoned or even sensible debate when the other side thinks it can righteously call you evil, blame your views on hate, sees it as morally right to silence you and interrupt meetings of people who agree with you.
And liberals doing this engender the hate of those they oppose, while ensuring that there is no middle ground.

The problem is not just disagreement, that always has and always will exist, but it seems that in the past we were always able to find some common ground, with reasonable people on each side of an issue.

Because when it comes to chopping babies into pieces and selling the parts, there are no reasonable people on the in-favor side. Likewise with importing Musloid troglodytes and throwing open the borders, forcing nuns to pay for abortions, funding and arming ISIS in order to slaughter Christians, etc.

I don’t blame the Internet, but there is something to be said about how it has shaped the debate.

There was a time when “Public discourse” was just that, public. Everyone discussed their ideas and differences in public with your family, friends, co-workers and classmates. We developed those ideas and hashed out our differences face to face and we were a much better and more moral society as a result. I think peer pressure worked very well to filter out the extremes and we had greater sense of Country and responsibility.

Today, virtually anybody can find a “group” of like minded misfits on some Internet site. Websites that bring together people that would have never shared their thoughts with each other prior to the Internet.

As a result, they no longer consider their ideas extreme. They have found a large enough group of like minded fools that have provided them with their safe space.

These groups feed off each other, support each other and work very hard to rationalize their group think.

And IMHO, here’s the difference between Conservatives and Progressives. Conservatives live in the real world digesting information from both sides while Progressives will primarily stay in their safe spaces. It’s the progressives that are trying to expand their “Safe Space” with PC tactics and the force of Government and there is no reason for them to think they are wrong. As soon as someone says they a wrong about anything, they have dozens of websites that will support them. It’s human nature to a certain extent since nobody likes being told they are wrong much less that their entire worldview is flawed.

They will never come to the table voluntarily unless they experience a personal crisis and our Government has been working harder than ever to remove any and all potential crisis’s from their lives.

But to progs, their reality is real and their truth is truer than conservatives. All perspective and what anyone chooses to believe.

As long as what I agree to disagree with has no impact on the lives on American Citizens.

You know, like the kind of Dress Moochelle wears, as long as she pays for it herself.

All perspective and what anyone chooses to believe.

Correct.

They not only think that "All beliefs" are valid, they embrace this uncertainty.

Anyone, primarily Conservative Christians, that express ANY certainty about virtually anything must be destroyed if their worldview is to survive.

They literally embrace a self-refuting argument, "They are certain that there is no certainty" or a truth claim "There is no truth".

When you point this out to a Prog, they will resort to viscous personal attacks in order keep their heads from exploding from cognitive dissonance.

Leftism, like Islam, can brook no dissent. Because its orthodoxies can never survive honest scrutiny.

You're right - it's why totalitarians chose to restrict free speech first - even before they start taking away a citizens means of defending themselves.

You are, of course, correct.

We’ve reached the point where one must fight Alinskyism with Alinskyism. Distasteful though that thought may be.

The alternative is to watch a steady parade of human punching bags like Bob Dole, McCain and Romney.
