What's Happening in Oregon Is Nothing Less Than Armed Sedition
Esquire ^ | January 3rd, 2016 | By Charles P. Pierce

"If three years ago any person had told me that at this day, I should see such a formidable rebellion against the laws & constitutions of our own making as now appears I should have thought him a bedlamite—a fit subject for a mad house."

—George Washington to Henry Knox, on the subject of Shays Rebellion, February 3, 1787

You have to give Captain Daniel Shays this: When he launched his armed sedition against lawful authority, he at least was invited in. Overnight on Saturday, in an obscure corner of the Oregon wilderness, and contrary to the law, and in defiance of democratic authority, both federal and local, another act of armed sedition was committed. It seems to me that this ought to be a bigger story than, say, the belated prosecution of Bill Cosby, or whatever most recently came out of the mouth of the vulgar talking yam. In a small place in Oregon, the essential compact of the United States of America has come apart.

"Please, not a Reichstag Fire!"

Vivid sarcasm. Of course they're doing it all now.

[[OM-Gosh, not a Reichstag fire! If that was to happen the government could rule by dicta! They could simply deem highly unpopular legislation to be passed without debate, set departments and bureaus over the people to make up their own regulations without legislative review or judicial redress and issue executive fiats to control the rights, liberties and freedoms of the people! Please, not a Reichstag Fire!]]

Lol- precisely

As a County Supervisor, I will tell you without hesitation that the Federal Government screws most everything it touches. I went to battle with US Fish and Wildlife in 2014. It opened my eyes as to who does what. The unelected bureaucrats control everything. They usually do what they do and nobody fights back. I testified in front of Congress twice. You know what I learned? Don't waste the taxpayers money by going to testify in front of Congress. They do nothing. The oversight committees? All for the soundbites. no follow up - zilch.

The good news? Citizens and local governments are fighting back, as evidenced by the Hammonds. I won my battle, with the help of Senator John McCain. WE MUST GET OUR PUBLIC LAND BACK. Not talking about Parks, military bases and Indian Reservations, talking about most everything around it. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DOES NOT OWN THAT LAND. It is held in trust and was supposed to be "disposed of" when the States were created. We must be able to manage our land locally. My County, Mohave County, AZ is only 16% privately owned. The percentage for the entire State is not much higher. That's why a debate about money spent on education is not a fair debate. AZ can never spend the kind of money States in the East. We don't have the money and if the Federal Government had their way, we'd have even less. The Federal government keeps us in line by giving us something called PILT. Payment in Lieu of taxes. Nice, huh? They give us, quite literally, pennies on the dollar for land they have tied up and cannot manage. If you'd like to learn more, please go to American Lands Council

Most everything you want to know can be found there.

Federal land management is bad, but it’s *always* been bad.

I’d love to improve it.

This particular situation will not improve it. Worse, the possibility exists that killing federal agents will usher in massive gun control and a totalitarian enforcement regime.

I was thinking about the Bureau of Land Management run by Hairy Reid’s minion Neil Kornze, but I like the Bundy Lives better.

"Don’t see the feds giving up land to states."

No, not voluntarily.

Mr. Pierce doesn’t seem concerned with double jeopardy?

“This is the wrong hill to die on.”

Agreed 101%. The morality is questionable. There is zero support from local elected officials. Just a bunch of hotheads trying to force a fight.

I fear the time is coming. But not yet.

In a small place in Oregon, the essential compact of the United States of America has come apart.

One would have to say that if it’s come apart it happened
some time before this. This is a manifestation if anything.

"Just a bunch of hotheads trying to force a fight"

They don't have the County with them. All the County officials and LEO are aligned with the Feds.

But if you look at the particulars of the grievances, one has to wonder why.

Perhaps co-opted by Federal dollars and the fear of being singled out in the news...or by Federal Prosecutors.

I wonder what would happen if Trump offered to interpose and negotiate in the situation?

May the King of Kings give you wisdom and strength Hildy.
May he do the same for all those folks in Oregon who are ready to die for what they think right in Jesus name I pray.

The D of C does not win in the end and it is highly unlikely they win many battles after they start the chaos
