Loretta Lynch was also endorsed by Judge Andrew Napolitano. I’ll remember their endorsements when they opine about Supreme Court nominees. Their credibility is questionable at best.

What does this achieve?

As 2nd Amendment Foundation pointed out, there is no penalty for retaining the background check information in a database.

This seems like an attempt to add to that database. So they have as complete a database as possible when confiscation begins.

That lets the cat out of the bag. The background check system, NICS, was by law not supposed to retain any information about who was buying what firearms. Everyone assumed that the Feds were violating the law and building a firearms registry anyway. Now they don't even bother to deny it.
