'This Is Embarrassing': New York Daily News Blasted for 'Disgusting' Cover Attacking Ted Cruz

The New York Daily News was blasted online for a cover set to hit newsstands Friday targeting Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz.

"DROP DEAD, TED," read bold letters on the front page of the liberal newspaper - directly next to an image of the Statue of Liberty giving the senator the middle finger.

Stop the presses! A new Page 1... DROP DEAD, TED: https://t.co/68hKgqmjBx pic.twitter.com/veDsxLYDTN

- New York Daily News (@NYDailyNews) January 15, 2016

The cover was a response to comments the Texas senator made about "New York values." Earlier this week, Cruz went after 2016 rival Donald Trump by arguing that the businessman had "New York values" and, thus, wasn't aligned with Iowa voters.

During Thursday night's debate, the senator stood by his remarks and argued "not many conservatives come out of Manhattan." In a poignant moment, Trump offered a powerful rebuttal invoking 9/11 that earned him much praise.

Readers of the Daily News, however, seemed to care less about the comments Cruz had made and more about the over-the-top statement the paper had printed on its cover. Some even contended the Daily News was proving Cruz's point.

@NYDailyNews I am NOT a supporter of Cruz, however this picture is disgusting, even for N.Y, media.

- Steven Nelson (@sn64867) January 15, 2016

@NYDailyNews Way to perfectly illustrate Cruz's point. This is embarrassing.

- John Iaquinta (@JohnnyMets213) January 15, 2016

@NYDailyNews Oh yeah, that'll teach 'em some values! How the hell are you hacks still selling papers?

- Nancy (@EnPointe2) January 15, 2016

@NYDailyNews wtf is wrong with you?? You just can't wish death on ppl! Everyone has a right to their own personal opinion. #blocked

- Noyb (@_smthbtful) January 15, 2016

@NYDailyNews Cover proves @Tedcruz #NYValues right. Majority of #USA rejects this low brow behavior. It's Immature and Ignorant. #tcot #gop

- American Fact (@AmericanFact) January 15, 2016

A spokesperson for Cruz's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from TheBlaze.

Cruz should thank them for illustrating and proving his point.

New York City dominates New York the way Chicago dominates Illinois, but once you get a fair distance from those two cities and their metropolitan areas, both states are fairly conservative. I guess the same could be said for California once you get outside of San Francisco and LA.

Beck is a fruitcake so it’s hard to take what he says seriously.

Uh, did Beck manufacture those tweets appended to the article? Try to focus on content and get past personalities.

Pretty much. Let the Daily News hang themselves by their own petard.

I’m a yuge Trump supporter, but this truly is embarrassing. I knew exactly what Cruz meant with his comments. NYC is Liberal cesspool that has a good many people leaving this area for greener (read: more conservative pastures).

Sorry, but I’m not jumping on this bandwagon of feigning outrage over what Ted said. This faux outrage is getting sickening.

I cannot believe FReepers and Trump supporters are actually justifying this outrageous cover!

The urban blight affects almost every state. Each has its major city that doesn’t represent the rest of the state, but it has the population that carries the votes. AND it’s far easier to organize a GOTV in an urban than suburban or rural area.

My Great Grandparents settled in New York, my Grand Parents were born in from New York, my father was an honest New York Cop. Ted can go back to Canada.

“Everyone knows what Ted was talking about. He was not referring to New York firemen during 9-11.”

If “everybody” did, then you guys wouldn’t need to keep trying to explain it.

Did he say anything specifically? No? Ok, then. That is why you have this issue today.

And if the best anyone can do is depend on the Blaze and some tweets from some random people to run cover, then it’s even worse.

This too, shall pass.

And they have the media as their hand-picked megaphone.

Which is why Ted should have qualified it better. He could have struck out at the media, NY elites, Wall Street fat cats (though that's risky with Heidi's occupation) billionaires (Trump) etc., but he simply said "New York values"...there's a lot of blue collar, working class people in NY too, and the media will milk that for all it's worth. Something else that will take him off message and focus.

While this is true (I live about 60 miles south of San Francisco), most of the voters in NY and California live in NYC and in LA and SF. I'd be all for splitting California into two new states - Western California, taking in the blue coastal sliver, and Inland California, incorporating the red or mostly red majority of California's territory.

At least that way, the farming communities and conservative areas of California would finally get some proper representation both within their own state and in Washington.
