Of course in a perfect world it would be a "Booker T. Washington" day.

Good point. BTW, like MLK, was a conservative who understood the importance of education and self-control. Both would be excellent role models for young blacks growing up.

But, unfortunately, the race hustlers (Sharpton, etc.) have pushed BTW's ideas into the background. No easy money in those ideas.

Years ago I worked in an office and we decided to have a potluck on MLK Day. We had a southern temp who was really happy to organize it. He set the menu as all southern food - little by little we all started to get nervous.

Was it racist to have watermelon? What about collard greens? Would black people think we were making fun? Was the southern temp putting us on?

We ate an uncomfortable meal and never did that again.

Very disappointed that this year the NHL has decided to forego it’s slate of matinee games.

Cause nothing says “Happy Birthday, Dr. King!” like an afternoon of watching NHL hockey.

I’m getting my dog baptized, and then I have some synchronized swimming lessons to go to if I can find my Speedoes.

I am sick and tired of the worship (and that’s all this is) of a communist, wife cheating trouble maker. If he were alive today, he’d be right there next to Jessie and Rev Al.

And then, next month we have to suffer through “Black History Month.” Spare me.

Well, look at the bright side, it's the shortest month of the year. Although, it's one extra day this year.

I am going on a lecture tour whoring my way across the country and speaking out against the American military, just like my hero Martin did in the last years of his life.

And while I have always thought that this was a racist holiday, it was pointed out that this was a good Republican, and upon examaination, that is correct. Not enough to have a holiday, or streets in every city named after him, but a good republican. To celebrate him, sadly stokes racial tensions by forcing all non-blacks to endure a day that many think is racially motivated, and to be honest, resent terribly, and will do NOTHING to celebrate. It is not, I emphasize that they do not like King, what he did, and how he lived his life, but that we did not choose to honor him in this manner, but had it thrust upon us. I am sure there are many examples of heros’s that died for America’s values that died today. In my mind, he will be honored among all of those who died, some willingly, some by acts of cowardice, and some by accident, good people all.
So today, I will celebrate ALL the good Republicans, and Independents that have waken up to the problems of American, and dedicated themselves to creating a better America, thru direct participation, and going forward with their eyes wide open.
