On the F-16.net forum, they are much more optimistic about the F-35 than this article is. There are even some former fighter pilots there.

They say: The F-35 may be somewhat less agile than the Russian Su-35, but the difference isn't decisive. Since 1970s fighter jets have been near the limit of what a pilot's body can bear and they cannot be made much more maneuverable. The F-35 actually combines some of the strengths of the F-16's (at medium speeds) and the F-18's (at low speeds) maneuverability.

The F-35 will provide its pilot with the best situational awareness in the world. Its sensors and, especially the concept of sensor fusion, are light years ahead of anything out there. Its stealth makes it very difficult to detect. In other words, the F-35 will see, but won't be seen. The enemy's pilots won't know what hit them.

The A10 is a close combat support aircraft. This article is about fighters. Apples and oranges.

Except, if the A-10 does not have air superiority above it, the Su- variants will quickly sweep the sky clean of them.

The A-10 mission only works if the pilot can concentrate on the ground war.

If he is targeted by enemy fighters, he has to run like hell and pray a friendly fighter saves his butt. More A-10s without air superiority fighters to watch over them just means a target rich environment for the bad guys.

Not sure if this is representative of the new Gripen E/F variant, which has bigger dimensions than the in-service Gripen A-D variants and is closer in dimensions to the Mirage-2000.

Your highness, forgive us any confusion we may have caused thee, by daring to mention the A10 Warthog in this US fighter thread.
Cripes, the article inferred the threat of our US diminishing aircraft / fighter numbers, which for some might naturally bring up the Air Force’s terrible decision to scrap the A10.
No condescension needed. We know the difference.
Geez

The last do everything for everybody aircraft was the space shuttle. By the end of its life its only accomplishment was to go to space and back without killing everyone on board.

Except for twice...

The system has been messed up for a very long time. It is full of corruption and political pork. The military makes it worse with unrealistic bids and requirements.

Oh,I don't know, the P39 made a great target tug and Russian anti-tank gun. Of course, it was supposed to be an interceptor.

Looks almost like the old F-20 with canards. That was a great little airplane.

Completely independent of the F35, the Gripen has some really serious flaws that this article ignores:

The Gripen has very little internal fuel capacity. As such it’s combat radius is extremely short. The only way to correct that is with external tanks, which on a small fighter eliminate many of its inherent advantages, particularly performance.

Buried deep within this article is this lovely turd:

“The Su-35 slaughters the F-18 Super Hornet at the rate of eight to one...”

The Navy will one day regret picking that dog over a 21st-century Super Tomcat...

Shame we can't put canards on an F-16xl and give it modern avionics.
