Some news to report out of Las Vegas where Donald Trump sat down with Field & Stream magazine for an interview during the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s annual SHOT Show.

First up, the GOP front-runner came out against letting states control public lands now run by the federal government saying, “I don’t like the idea because I want to keep the lands great, and you don’t know what the state is going to do."

Trump is running a replay of Nixon 1968, not Reagan 1980, as Mark Levin has been pointing out. It is the classic run right in the primaries by throwing out a little red meat, and then when you seem to have won, then rush back for the middle. Nixon came to this from his hatred of both the Left and as written in Steven Ambrose's biography of Nixon, the Right also. He saw both sides as intellectuals too beholden to principles. In his view the great unwashed in the middle was his to capture. I say unwashed for a reason, that is how Nixon viewed them. Nixon did not have principles greater than what was good for Nixon. If growing big government even bigger would keep the great unwashed on his side, well he would grow the leviathan. In a way the Reagan Democrat was more a residual of the Nixon coalition than anything Reagan did to convince these people of the merits of small government free market conservatism. So here we are again in 2016. No, Trump is not the American Mussolini, and he is not the new Reagan. He is Nixon redux, minus the Watergate stuff, I will give him, for now. Trump speaks to the culturally conservative folks who could care less about all that small government free market theory. They just want back what big government did for them in the past. The prior allegiance to the Democrat Party was cut when that party decided to direct Big Government's efforts toward minorities and government hacks, and they are not crazy about Conservatives telling them to better themselves and fend for themselves. A perfect scenario for the Nixonian, Trump, to springboard to the top from. I admit, I am one of those types who say better yourself and take care of yourself, but I also understand now, unlike before, that I am a small minority. My preference for small government and free markets has failed at making its case to the people. I believe it to be the right one, but I admit it did not make a dent in the body politic.

He has that “tendency” because he simply isn’t a conservative.

We just moved from the Washington coast to northern Michigan in an attempt to remain able to own some land and enjoy the wilderness without attack.

Scroll down to read about the private land grabs taking place all over the country.

Our Natianal Parks are a great heritage.

Yeah they are something the Big hack Government can use as sledge hammer during budget negotiations.

OR have you forgotten when they closed them all down and we the American Citizen could not even visit them.

They used them as blackmail on US to get what they want.

Have you frequented Texas State Parks since your bring up Austin? Jewels in the rough. We frequent them in our travels and the prices are great. I would have no problem if Texas managed all FERAL land in Texas.

Texas has about 1% of it’s land controlled by the Federal Government.

That happens to be the State that Ted Cruz represents.

I’d like to see that in the entire country.

Wouldn’t you?

GO CRUZ GO

Bring Texas to America

This posting is irrelevant and intended to incite. It’s just more anti Trump garbage.

No it is not. It shows that Trump is anti State control and pro Big FERAL Government HACK.

Get over it. You have thrown your saddle on the wrong horse and are riding for the wrong brand.

Liberalism is an infection and you got it.

“The demos and the media would love for Cruz to be the nominee.”

So would I.

Trump needs to really understand the depths of unconstitutionality the feds have plumbed including unconstitutionally commandeering state lands outside of the guidelines of Article I, Section 8, Clause 17.

Those lands constitutionally BELONG to the states NOT to the feds.

Mr. Trump, America’s greatness is in the AMERICAN PEOPLE and their freedom to govern themselves individually and locally which includes state governance. America’s greatness is NOT in the unconstitutional federal government which is expressly limited by the Constitution.

That ship has sailed.

He has lambasted Cruz as not being eligible to hold office, certainly would not get a VP nom.

Anyway, doubtful Cruz would stand beside a liberal as a running mate... his principles matter to much to him.

Anyone here think state governments are less corrupt and more efficient than the federal government? Annapolis, DC, Sacramento, Austin - I repeat - Austin?

Yes. Austin isn't a state. Texas is run by mostly conservatives. Both chambers and the governor are Republicans (not exactly a badge of honor lately, but WAY more efficient and less corrupt than the Washington alphabet soup of statists). One size fits all - says Obama, er ah, Trump.

Trumps son was speaking the other day about how our federal lands have become wastelands, he had been hunting and camping since he was a child and he said our government lands have become a disgrace ! TRUMP said at that time our forests NEED to be thinned and our public lands need to be taken care of, be damned the EPA!!! He seems more like a guy to turn the lands over to the PRIVATE sector!!! He did a GREAT job on the ice rink in Manhattan, I think he is looking at what happened to this wonderful rink under state control!!!! His sons are AVID hunters, fishers and campers!!! They have seen our public lands across the country deteriorate he BLAMES the EPA!!!! I think the EPA will be a ghost town in DC under Trump!!!

**I like Cruz but his voice just grinds.**

I like what Palin says (most of the time), but can hardly stand to listen to more than a minute of her voice. I’m spoiled. My wife has a voice that is just off the charts attractive, no matter what she is saying. Sounds biased, but other people that know my wife have said the same thing.

I would add that I do not think that Trump’s new pals in DC, who despise Cruz as Trump has stated, would allow Cruz on the ticket. You have to make deals you see, and this is one deal that will never happen.

“Duffer, why is it you feel the need to branch out to prove your case here?

All you have done is reveal your bias against him. This was a single issue that proved nothing. To prove something you had to toss in a lot of other issues to make something out of it.”

It’s duffee, but you know that. Yes, I have bias against Trump and for Senator Cruz as you have bias for Trump and against Senator Cruz. One more issue comes up that shows Trump to be big government and these “other issues” are connected and show a pattern. Many Trump supporters are having difficulty making these connections.

And what if the states CAN NOT afford to care for them, what about PRIVATE sector caring for them??? Private sector could take over the leases to the ranchers ect. I believe the people would be MUCH BETTER OFF not dealing with the FEDS at all!!!
