FNC'S Jesse Watters:National Review "Putting Pure Conservatism Over The Country"
Breitbart.com ^ | January 23, 2016 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 01/23/2016 9:33:37 AM PST by Biggirl

On Friday’s “The Five,” panelist Jesse Watters questioned the critics of Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump who voiced their concerns about the candidate in a so-called manifesto about Trump published in the latest issue of National Review. Watters said Trump has qualities beyond conservative ideology that make him appealing as the eventual GOP nominee.

I forgot to ask if you would be kind enough to point out the incomplete and dishonest points on that link I used.

—NRO is not even close to “pure conservatism.” Glenn Beck? Russell Moore? Bill Kristol?

What connection do you imagine that Glen Beck and Bill Kristol have with National Review?

You need to do your own research.

There is no way I can re-post the books I have read, the full articles I have read, and the speeches I have listened to.

They are available to you; as the were to me.

I don’t think you want to know the truth about any of the candidates or you would research each of them with an open mind.

I read elsewhere that his voting record is spotty but this doc refutes that.

Was going to call you on it but did a search. Good post.

Ok - I'll take your word for it. You know things are untrue, but you don't know why. You just know.

But when I say I've supported Cruz since his campaign against David Dewhurst, another establishment darling, and I've never known him to break a promise, you call me a liar. Just the same I keep trying for truth, or at least balance. Some from reading, some from watching and some from talking to folks like you.

I don’t believe I called you a liar or said anything about Cruz.

I said you were posting half-truths about Trump which you would know were half -truths if you did any real research.

But, you don’t research anything. You would prefer to just post things that seem to back up your argument.

Everything you said about both Trump and Cruz is untrue. Research it and prove me wrong.

(Wow this is easy)

I did not say anything about Cruz at all and nothing specific about Trump.

I do not know what you are talking about.

Please quote what you think I said about either of them.

They were all participants in NRO's "Against Trump" screed.

Hmm, guest writers.

Bill Kristol has his own magazine. You knew that right? And Beck has his own internet site.

Are you drunk? They both were among the 22 who penned the NRO "Against Trump" manifesto. Although apparently McCain and Romney were conservative enough for them, and they endorsed Paul Ryan for Speaker.

You disputed a list I pasted and said it was distortion, but can't say why. I think we'd better just move on.

I'll continue to learn where I can.

Right. They were guest contributors. They are not on staff, they have no ownership interest. They are not ‘connected’ to the magazine.

What great ideas for reform have these globalists at National Review offered in the past fifteen years? They grump around at the edges, but they are all globalists and open borders, all the time. They are pro foreigner and could care less about America or Americans.

I agree, Cruz’s resume is pretty thin when compared to Reagan’s, but I see no one in the current field that has greater potential to approach Reagan’s accomplishments than Cruz.

Trump has practiced crony-capitalism his entire adult life. You could make the case that is what he had to do in order to achieve his level of success in today’s America, but I have yet to see that he believes that a wrecking ball is needed to radically diminish the size and scope of the federal government. You may not see it, but I believe he is cut from the classic mold of the Rockefeller Republican, who thinks that all that is needed is a good manager to put things aright.

His position, that he doesn’t trust the states to manage their own lands, demonstrates that he believes he knows better than us how to manage our own affairs, and I find that extremely disquieting.

Others have diminished the importance of his positions on government mandates (ethanol) and Eminent Domain, saying border security “trumps” all. I agree that border security and immigration control are the two most near-term pressing issues, but I am terrified that Trump will betray us on his Supreme Court picks. I believe we are one justice away from losing our Second Amendment rights and I am afraid the First Amendment will fall shortly after.

I respect your right to come to your own conclusions and I will vote for Trump over Clinton or Sanders, but I’ll also be disheartened if those are my choices.
