That statement is false right on its face. When you abbreviate the Second Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians, you remove all the words except Corinthians and you change "second" to "2".
Abbreviations are of course different from what they are abbreviating. Surely we can all agree that is the very purpose of abbreviations. However, abbreviations are not intended to change anything but the written brevity.
The common Freeper abbreviation of 2A is a great example of what I'm talking about. No one actually says or thinks “two A”. That is because they know what 2A is abbreviating.
Your continual unfounded attacks on my honesty are really getting old.
Aren't we all?
The handling of the bible has its own customs. So do other 2ritings. Take, for example, the federalist papers. Federalist 2. Has anyone ever heard of the 2A Sisters? They are called that.
Without quotations in your text, I don’t really understand what you are trying to say. Are you saying that the “Second Amendment Sisters” are called the “two A Sisters”? Because I’ve never heard that.
Some people say coke instead of soda. For example, get me a Sprite coke. Within their population it’s totally normal. Outside of it they will be amusing.
If I’m in a small group looking at just Paul’s writings, I might start writing and saying 2C for brevity. But if I refer to 2C:2:2 in front of a different group they are going to wonder what I’m talking about or if I don’t understand my own notes.
I gather from your post, SM, that you are not familiar with the bible as one who has studied it. Is that correct? If it is then perhaps I should cut you some slack.
Interesting question.
Do I study the Bible theologically? Yes. Structurally? Yes.
Do I take pride in regurgitating verbatim verses out of context, so that I can drop them on unsuspecting people throughout the day? No. I always found that to be a distasteful practice that almost always manifests in a prideful way.
Paul didn’t write his letters with Chapter and verse numbers did he? And when lectoring I don’t spit verse numbers at the congregatiin. Are you postulating that Trump does a great deal of scholarly Bible study and just fell into the habit of scholarly lexicon?
Again, your post doesn’t sound like you have much background.
Fair enough, your posts sound to me like you don’t understand the difference between jargon and good grammar.
But you appear to be looking for some bona fides from me. Curious, because I’m fairly certain that there is no degree or background in extent that you would not summarily reject when so presented.
I’m certain that my having two higher degrees, and having a team of professional text editors working for me carries zero weight, so let’s not pretend that any background that I present with regard to this issues would influence your position in the least. Personally, I’m not horribly impressed with diplomas. I know too many low IQ people with Master degrees, and the USSR was chock full of schooled economists.
As a general rule, different opinions are valuable when making a determination. Thanks for your contributions.
