Liberals want Designated Losers TM to keep every one happy.

Winning makes some people unhappy so its a NO NO.

If you’re too good, get lost!

Everyone must get a trophy mentality at play here.

Yup, if no one wins no one is offended.

Are we supposed to play worse just to make them happy?” team member Tessa McCarthy told the station.

Welcome to the world of liberals Tessa! Get used to it it won't change for a long time. My eight year old grandson is very active in sports and regardless of which they are not allowed to keep score. This is really stupid because the kids always do, or are asking what the score is. Children need to learn that sometimes you lose so that they can learn how to deal with it appropriately when it happens.

Hanauska is slated to meet with the league's board Monday.

I'll bet dollars to donuts the board treats the coach to a vicious and utterly blank wall sensitivity training session, makes him and the team out to be abusers, and sanctions him.

Must be a recent league, just be an independent travel team and schedule better competition. Being the best team in a bad league isn’t going to make you any better.

I thought sports was about recognizing and affirming excellence.

Apparently the league disagrees.

Obviously, is not any fun to play a team and get slaughtered by them. But how else do you get better? You play a team, and you know they’re good. If you can keep the score close, then you did well, and hopefully you learned something.

pansy ass parents

My eight yr old grandson had a basketball game last week and my daughter and I noticed when his team got over a forty point lead the scoreboard quit adding points when they made a basket, but if the other team made one it did.

Some places have the winning team only play defense until the losing team catches back up.

That was a time in college football, maybe twenty years ago,
when, if one team got ahead of the other by a certain amount, the losing team on scoring would by rule receive the following kickoff. I don’t think it lasted too many seasons.

If they are that good, move them up a division. Or let them place the boys their age. What’s the big deal?

At first glance, it seems absurd. Not knowing the details, I will reserve some judgment, as it could be a recreational/instructional league and the team in question could be stacking their team. Probably not, but we see stuff like that in hockey.

This is much deeper than parents who are upset because one team is too good. I think the key here is that this is a "showcase" tournament where it's possible that Division 1 scouts might attend. Parents want their girls to be scouted, and the parents know that the undefeated team will get the most consideration. So, the solution is to ban them before the tournament. Problem solved.

FReeper fungoking's post is insightful, and the team needs to try to find a traveling team in a competitive league.

Note to Northwest Suburban Basketball League: Did you people really think you would get away with this without someone posing a major objection? Do you realize that you have now made your league, and yourselves a laughingstock?

Had I been the coach I would have stopped play as soon as I noticed this. Just absolutely crazy.

My son manages a sports league for kids in private grade schools in our area. There are no trophies awarded for showing up, only for first and second place, although this last year he has had to deal with some pretty irritating parents who get upset because Johnnie or Jill didn’t get to play as much as some of the other kids. Problem is that Johnnie and Jill’s parents need to find something their kids can excel at - and it isn’t sports - and he does make this recommendation to them. Many of the parents send their kids to training camps to learn the mechanics of the game and their parents work with them to help develop their skills.

Like everything else, over the years this simple activity has changed and not necessarily for the better.
