Flashback: Trump Saved NY Veterans Day Parade Marking 50th Anniversary of End of WWII

A meme was started by Trump antagonists in certain conservative circles that Donald Trump does next to nothing money to help veterans. It turns out Trump has been generous with veterans over the past decades-all it takes is a little more research than those with an ax to grind seem willing to do.

UPI reported in 1995 how Trump was credited with 'saving' the New York Veterans Day Parade. The parade that year was marking the fiftieth anniversary of the end of World War II.

From the New York Times in 1995, another report that mentions how Trump came to the aid of the parade when the organizers had less than two dollars for the parade.

Also in this article:

This wasn't the only veterans project Trump was involved with in New York. In the 1980s, Trump gave $1 million to help fund the New York City Vietnam Veterans Memorial Plaza located in Lower Manhattan, reported the New York Times in 1985.

As someone else mentioned, Trump never mentions these things.

I’ve decided that the Trump naysayers are to be disregarded. Their Trump is finished, stingy, selfish, etc accuaracy averages aren’t so great.

Also, didn’t he work with Greta to get that poor Marine out of the Mexican prison. He also gave him money to help him get back on his feet.

You would have thought one of the candidates that are currently in Congress SHOULD have been the one doing this instead of a private citizen.

I've wondered if/how Trump's early high school days at that military academy would show up in his life.

His actions suggest that his love and respect for America's military past and present is old school real and a part of his nature.

Given his political campaign, his demonstrated love for the military could all be for show.

However, my guess is that something learned so early in a young man's life, and in such a place where one lives the life 24/7 while being instructed by ex-military, is very likely to become part of his core beliefs and core values, as his actions appear to support.

I'm inclined to believe his love and respect for our military is entirely sincere.

Hey, great picture.

You know, I've never seen a picture like what you posted!   Imagine that: a politician touching our flag with reverence.

Sure, we know it's a pose for the cameras — but so what.   Nobody else does it.   Trump thought enough to put his hands on the flag and send the message.   It's a subtle reminder that the guy is another Reagan who can bring out the dormant patriot in everyday Americans.

He's done other unusual things too, like praising Rush Limbaugh on Twitter.   He's done it more than once.

And he often says, "the wounded warriors are our best people".   It's a beautiful thing to say and he backed up his words with the event the other night to raise awareness about veterans issues.

The Green Beret vet with one leg who was the keynote speaker at the Iowa Veterans event mentioned that Trump spent an hour talking with him one time.   Now if Trump was only about "making a profit", having a long conversation with a wounded vet doesn't get him anywhere fast.

But you add up things like that, the guy has shown he cares, and you detect a pattern of being a good citizen.   He cares about people and he also cares about having good government.

Opponents can discount all of these things as "pandering to the voters".   But we've witnessed his noble words and deeds for many months now. &nbap; And at some point, I think, we need to trust a guy who is honest, successful, courageous, and smart.   He's been in the public eye for an incredibly long time so he's been vetted quite a bit.

I'll admit, he's no saint.   But I distrust saints.   I wouldn't let Pope Francis within 100 feet of my Constitution and free republic.

You can argue all you want about "free trade" and other conservative principles, but doesn't a Dad try to protect his family?   Doesn't he try to raise them right and nurture them to be successful and position them to get good jobs and lead a good life?   I loved it when Trump said, he's going to be "greedy for America". Sounds great even if it's not pure conservatism.   And given that America is off her stride, we need to take some emergency measures to get her on track again.

Give me someone who is real, who's one of us, and someone who proves by his daily hustle and energy that he truly wants to and is competent enough to Make America Great Again.

Isn’t it great to have a Born Bred American running for our highest office!!!

No worries about ‘is he legal’ ‘what has he sealed’ it’s all an open book, and boy does it feel good...

And just a little side note: Sure did feel good that Trump did a great thing for the Vets and Wounded Warriors and you can see they are mighty appreciative of what he did for them...

Trump: Strong willed, intelligent, does what he says he’s going to do, and proves it!!!

GO.TRUMP.GO!!!

I read somewhere that the Donald sent his private jet to NC where a group of soldiers returning from the combat zone to Miami were stranded. His plane made two trips from NC to Miami to ensure that all of them were able to go home that night. Once again he did not say anything to the press about it.
