Trump: Unlike Cruz, ‘I Have a Heart,’ I’ll Enact Universal Health Coverage
National Review ^ | January 31, 2016 12:20 PM | Tom S. Elliott

In an interview this morning on This Week, Donald Trump cited his desire to "help people" as the reason he favors government-funded universal health coverage. Unlike Ted Cruz, Trump said, "I have a heart."

"If somebody has no money and they're lying in the middle of the street and they're dying, I'm going to take care of that person," Trump said.

The scenario he envisions (emergency treatment) is already the law of the land and was the law before Obamacare. So what is Trump taking about other than Canadian-style socialized medicine?

So what?

He made it absolutely clear this is NOT SINGLE PAYER.

Very lame.

Looked at another way, Trump is simply pointing out that getting rid of Obamacare will NOT result in people dying in the street. We were already dealing with those situations with the laws on the books (as you point out). So any voters who fear a Republican getting rid of Obamacare should rethink that fear, because it will not result in people having no emergency care.

Trump is stating the obvious, but sometimes that’s necessary.

Lifelong DEM Trump of course supports socialized medicine (and doesn't seem to understand that it hurts most of its patients.)

It’s for the children.

Remember when Trump talked about real issues. Like murderer and rapist illegal aliens.

He brought these and other issues to the fore.

That’s why I liked him.

But those issues are secondary now to the overriding issue of why Trump is so great.

Emergency care only. Already exists? Yes. Any additional cost? No. Sounds good to voters? Definitely yes.

Trump has said he’s for private plans, portability, health savings accounts. He has also always said he’s for taking care of those who lost their jobs, had policies cancelled, whatever.

Though most of this is already done through Medicaid there is so much waste and fraud. I knew a government worker, made a decent salary but cheated enough to be able to use the emergency room as her health plan. I believe Trump will find this and be able to narrow the free care to only the needy.

No, National Review is not stirring up feces. Your man, Donald Trump, is stirring up the manure. So he called Cruz a “total liar” today or yesterday. Trump is classless and crude, along with being a serial adulterer and strip club owner. He is SO unworthy to be president.

“Trump is stating the obvious, but sometimes that’s necessary.”

Not obvious enough for some dummies, it appears.

He’ll say anything to anybody, if that’s what they want to hear. He tailors his speeches to his audience. No core beliefs. Looks like we’re stuck with him now. Brilliant!

as the reason he favors government-funded universal health coverage.

Trump never said this. The columnist is intentionally being deceptive by mixing quotes with his own words. He is being very dishonest.

I like the way the dishonest NR puts part of a Trump quote in the headline and makes up the rest. Trump says no single payer. The GOPe is getting desperate.

Single payer can work quite well with aggressive oversight. It could also require competition for contracts.
