BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- A 13-year-old girl who vanished from her bedroom was stabbed to death by a Virginia Tech student, and another freshman already charged with hiding the body was more deeply involved, authorities said Tuesday. A neighbor said the seventh-grader told friends she would sneak out to meet her "boyfriend" David, an 18-year-old she met online through the Kik messaging app.

Sheesh, she survived all that in her young life, and the wiles of a deviant college student ended her life.

In a way, I’m glad I don’t have kids. It seems increasingly impossible to keep them out of trouble.

I know, right.

But, statistically, kids are probably safer now than 200 years ago, when they could have been kidnapped or massacred by Native Americans, killed by disease (Yellow fever, smallpox, malaria, typhoid)

There’s a video of this punk on Youtube being interviewed by a news reporter about his cross country running, and you would never guess in a million years underneath him lies the most clintonian type of evil. You never know what lies in peoples souls.

Watch the video again and how he talks about himself. Almost mirrors Clinton.

Hey FReepers... see your daughter over there tap tap tapping away on her phone?
She is just talking to her friends, right? She is just playing a candy game... right?
Sure, don’t worry. Thats all she’s doing.

I love my kids, but I know what you mean. As a mom I worry about this stuff all the time.

There’s no innocence anymore. Wife and I were watching the new Family Feud with Steve Harvey last night, and one of the questions was “At what age did you first play ‘spin-the-bottle’?” She and I said 15-16. The people on the show said 13. The number one answer was 12. I was climbing trees and riding bikes at 12. I didn’t know much about girls except that they had cooties until I was around 14. Crazy how fast kids grow up now.

We played spin the bottle at my Bar Mitzvah in 1977 when I was 13. I wouldn’t exactly consider that on the same level as what happened here. Of course I had strong parenting too.

When my kids were young people were worried about computer online activity at the library. You know what kids do when their parents take away the phone. They use their friends phones.

It was a commentary on modern youth more than on the story. My apologies if that was unclear.

“A 13-year-old girl...”

Apparently her parents did let her have a ‘smart phone’...

“They use their friends phones.”

Much less likely to get caught up in crap like this when you always have to borrow a phone. Possible, yes, but odds way down.

I have found that kids are much more likely to get into trouble when acting within a group or friend. All I am saying just because your kid doesn’t have a phone doesn’t mean he doesn’t have access to one. At least I can some-what monitor my kids phone. I can’t do that with their friends and schoolmates phone.
