But Cruz, being the hard core “religious right” would not be attractive to Paul supporters. They will go to Rubio or Bernie.

Cruz is... was... the second-most libertarian candidate in the race, after Paul. His NH play has always been going after evangelicals and libertarians, Paul dropping out will be a plus. Rubio isn't particularly libertarian and Sanders is an all-out statist.

Remember, Cruz isn't competing against Trump in NH, he's trying to beat Rubio.

"This helps Cruz" was my first thought hearing this. Second thought: Rand dropped out because he wants to stop Trump. Rand and his father have both spoken out against Trump, who is in many ways the anti-libertarian. Anti-free trade, anti-immigration, tough on terror.

It wouldn't surprise me if Paul endorsed Cruz, but even if he doesn't I'm sure he'd prefer Cruz to Trump, and the time to clear a path for Cruz is now, before Trump recovers from Iowa.
