Donald Trump implodes campaign by being a sore loser
The Washington Examiner ^ | 2/3/2016 | Philip Klein

Nobody likes a sore loser, and by adopting that role on Wednesday morning in charging that Sen. Ted Cruz "stole" Iowa, Donald Trump has effectively imploded his campaign.

Yes, I know. Pundits have been saying for months that one Trump comment or another would sink him, only to be proven wrong. But here's why this is different.

Every other time Trump said something controversial, or insulted an opponent, he was doing so from a position of strength. He looked like the alpha male toying with his pathetic oppnents. His whole brand is based on the idea that he's a "winner" - being not just a loser, but a "sore loser," is greatly damaging.

In this case, Cruz pulled off an impressive win in Iowa. Trump validated that win by giving a gracious - for him - concession speech, even congratulating Cruz. But now, he has unleashed a temper tantrum.

“If nothing else it puts Ted on notice that it is sleazy and he better cut it out.”

That was my take on it. He’s putting everyone on notice that more cheating will be a problem. That’s it.

CNN never reported that Carson was dropping out.

And neither did the Cruz campaign. The memo they sent reported what the press had reported.

Calling out LIARS is being a ‘sore loser’...? Don’t think so.

And only 1 of the many campaigns twisted that into the lie that Carson was dropping out.

Wrong.

“CNN never said Carson was dropping out of the race.”

Exactly! But Cruz took that rather innocuous comment from CNN relating to Carson and subverted it to their benefit! And now Cruz say’s “we're sorry, we shouldn't have done it, but it's done, so let's just move on!” I guess the Cruzers are O.K. with a president who's a conniver! All I would say to you “is be careful what you wish for!” If he's O.K. with this, he's probably O.K. with amnesty for his "Hispanic brothers and sisters."

“I didn’t know the dirty tactics were this bad.”

You mean the bad actrions reported by CNN and proven false?

“President Trump is not going to put up with jack. That’s good for America.”

Abdsolutely true!

*Sigh*

This is the only question that matters: Are the allegations true?

If the positions were reversed and Trump supporters were telling caucus-goers that Carson had dropped out (apparently at the urging of their candidate, no less), and supposedly won because of it? And if Cruz was all up in arms about it, the Cruz supporters here on FR would be going nuts, and the Trump supporters would be the ones calling them sore losers. If Bush or Rubio had done this and pulled off 1st place, we’d ALL be foaming at the mouth.

I’m sick of arguing candidates at the moment; I’m trying really hard to look objectively at this. Is this wrongdoing? If we had no horse in the race at all, would we call this right or wrong?

All I know right now is that Cruz, or the Cruz campaign, apparently sent a message to their supporters to tell caucus-goers that Carson had dropped out, and to vote Cruz instead. I suppose it’s beyond my paygrade as a keyboard jockey to make a moral or legal judgment about the rightness of this.

“And yes, he’s not clean. NO ONE IS.”

Ah. Then that wouldn’t rule out TRUMP as the source?
Please. This is a nothing burger. RUMORS.

“Sorry, but that 3-day poll only has data from 1 day after Iowa. And even that poll already showed Cruz gaining 2 points and Rubio gaining 4 points. “

Sorry but there are not enough days for them to make it up.

If it was the other way around and Cruz had lost Iowa and was kicking up a storm over it, would you be saying the same thing?

Bottom line is Carson set himself up for whatever just by the actions he was making in his campaign. That’s not to say this accusation that Cruz people passed this info on but he should have been protecting his flank and he wasn’t.

Then to say he was going to Florida for a change of clothes, as if dry cleaners don’t exist...was easy enough to assume he was pulling back or out.

Frankly the staff of any candidate cannot be controlled as some might hope to.....I doubt Cruz agreed to this behavior.

I don’t care who the source is.

And I stand by my statement. No one is clean. Not in this political race and not anywhere or anyone.

Is this your first election? I have seen the polls change in 24 hours, let alone a week. And with Trump's meltdown on twitter, we could be seeing a dramatic swing.

Are the allegations true?

Which allegations? That the Cruz campaign was telling Carson voters about what CNN was reporting? Yes that is apparently true. Why wouldn't they share what was being reported on CNN and on Twitter?

Standing there and taking a beating and making wise cracks is not standing up. Pushing back and refusing to play their game is standing up.

Trump’s popularity was always a ‘house of cards’ based on his reputation as a ‘Winner’, once that goes, it all comes crumbling down.

I’m hoping that’s the case that Cruz himself didn’t agree. I believe that we have the names of those who started the meme at least.

I just have the sinking feeling that this is going to blow up in one way or another. Even if Trump doesn’t go and push the proverbial detonator right now, I just have a premonition that this campaign is going to get a lot worse. And if it’s Rubio as the one standing at the end, I will be PISSED.

And he spends more time Tweeting than the average middle-schooler.

The average middle-schooler doesn't have 8 million twitter followers and is not running for president.

Twitter is the most effective, cheapest, and easiest way for Trump to send a broadcast message.
