Welfare moms unhappy with free lodging, prepared meals, WiFi, maid service
American Thinker ^ | Feb 4, 2016 | Ed Straker

D.C. welfare moms are having to put up with lodging in hotels that give them prepared meals, cable TV, internet WiFi access, and maid service that don't meet their standards:

"Tiera Williams and her four children dodge cars on a winter evening as they cross the parking lot of the Days Inn to the Washington motel room the children call "Mommy's house."

"People at the Days Inn - one of at least 12 motels being used by the city to house 730 homeless families this winter – lean over the balcony that overlooks the courtyard lit by the December glow of yellow lights."

"They occupy a hidden world of desperation and poverty mixed with every-other-day maid service, free WiFi, continental breakfast in the lobby, and lunch and dinner in the 170-room motel's banquet room."

Lunch and dinner in the banquet room meets my definition of hidden desperation.

"They've been living here since August when Williams - then six months pregnant and unemployed with no place to go – called the city's homeless hotline.

She opens the door to her unit, ushering her children inside a space that she describes as "the size of two jail cells." The decor is pleasant enough, with maroon carpeting, wood paneled headboards and a television in an armoire near a bathroom vanity."

If Tiera is unhappy with her room, why doesn't she go to the front desk and change her reservation to get a larger suite, as any person paying her own way would do?

"Williams dumps bags of groceries on the motel room desk. In the mini refrigerator, she stacks yogurt, apples, oranges and a roasted chicken they will have for dinner that night. She uses her food stamps to buy meals because she doesn't like eating the pasta, casseroles, chicken, hot dogs and other dishes the city provides at the motel."

I highly doubt welfare rats will be impacted by a major recession, the only difference will be more of them.

That's probably true. The mental image of this situation and the Katrina handouts that "weren't good enough, why not McDonalds" has my head really hurting.

Hey scumbag...I mean "lady..." One question. Is it better than living outside, on the street? Yes? Then STFU other than to maybe say "thank you."

Here is the realest of reality checks for any of you liberal lurkers out there. Nobody owes you anything. If you're not willing to work for it, there's no reason you shouldn't end up naked and hungry in a ditch. Anything up/better from there you had better be willing to work for.

It occurs to me the most useful thing an American could do with a time machine is go back and kill the first slave importers and owners.

Not surprise the commenting has been disabled.

I’ll have to research further:

Govt provides condoms and abortions, does it not cover sterilization?

ONLY in govt, where accountability is ZERO, would more children = more $$.

Margaret Sanger, erstwhile founder-in-spirit of Planned Parenthood, also favored sterilization so I recall.

Why would she move to DC of all places?

We need to bring back orphanages.

Re ‘wastrels’.

It does a body good to see the English language in all its descriptive glory is not dead!

I’ve often told my wife of 40 years (a Czech by birth) that the English language has to ability to describe multiple situations in so many contexts and manners it is incredible. She finally realized this when we both sat down one night and pondered about the uses and meanings of so many variations of one of the most vulgar epithets that starts with “F”.

In my opinion, it is the only language on this planet that allows one to insult someone in 40 different ways and not give a clue to the unenlightened as to the meaning.

:0)

“Where the baby daddy?”

The father of the littlest ones is “in the picture” but doesn’t do child support.

Undoubtedly. But when government is using other peoples’ money they haven’t really understood the impact of “give them an inch, they want a mile” concept. Not their money or hard work.

States are often worse than the feds re: welfare but some of them (perhaps most or all) at least demand that a child’s mother and father be legally identified even if the father pays nothing.

This gave rise to the medical oddity known as the paternity lab where blood is drawn, forms signed and notarized, tests run, matches determined, etc.

As you might expect, the parade of humanity that filed through the place was a pathetic sight. Even worse, they had to have Polaroids of them taken for the files.

A few interesting notes from that eye-opening two weeks:

1) If antigen tests (which are about 97% accurate) were challenged, the lab would do DNA testing which was 99.7% accurate. This is why, years later, when I heard they had DNA evidence against OJ Simpson I believed the case was solid. But there’s no accounting for ignorant juries swayed by race-baiting.

2) The head honcho of the lab, ironically, was rarely in the office since he was one of these blokes who did court expert testimony at great expense to the plaintiff/defendant and, I’m sure, the taxpayer independent of welfare benefits paid. No doubt he had a stock standard speech he gave and I’m guessing that cross-examination was rarely attempted. Nice little earner for him.

What all the socialists don’t understand is that government writing checks will bring out the chancers ie rent-seekers in droves...even so-called legitimate businesses will spring up to absorb public money while facilitating the distribution of even more money to breeding stock intentionally funneled through intentionally failing public schools. I find it hilarious and sad when the media trumpets Student XYZ ‘escapes poverty by getting an education.’ Do they not realize that highlighting the exception also highlights the vast majority of their so-called graduates who remain ignorant and therefore politically valuable?

“At least this story isn’t as depressing as the 18 and 19 year old GRANDMOTHERS in New Orleans and transplants in Houston. “

... I don’t think that’s biologically possible. But I’ve been wrong before.

They could at least send a fathers day card. After all, you and I are paying for the baby mommas with our hard work.

Those one-star hotel reviews are hilarious. “I had to walk all the way down to the desk for my free shampoo.” “No internet service, how is this even possible?” Cheap motels are cheap motels, kids, even when they’re charging big city prices.

She was a racist, eugenics loving piece of filth; no wonder Hillary holds her in such high esteem.

I’m pointing out govt ‘charity’ contains NO accountability to the taxpayer from which the $$-tree ‘springs’.

For ALL the benefits it provides, one that would ‘save’ the taxpayer, as well as the brood parent, isn’t an option.
