Second, why did the "kids" listen to an armed home owner and not an armed cop.Homeowner may have been in a superior firing position and able to target the big mouth (always one in the bunch instigating stuff) better.
Homeowner may have known the kids and called the mouthy one out by name or just asked them which one wanted to die first.
'Mob busting' is an art form.
