Will they Cruzify Ted?
The Spectator ^ | 2/11/16 | David Flint

Posted on 02/11/2016 4:42:57 AM PST by TBBT

The progressive elites will try to do to Cruz what they did to Abbott

The American mainstream media, the Republican Party establishment and the Democratic Party are determined that Ted Cruz not be sworn in as the 45th president.

Anyone with that opposition must be formidable.

That he is. Campaigning against Federal ethanol subsidies in Iowa, a major corn producing state, and against all poll predictions, Cruz defeated the media's favourite, Donald Trump, receiving more votes than any Republican candidate ever had. Cruz is the candidate most motivated by his attachment to traditional American principles. For his opponents, these are principles to which lip service only should be accorded these days. But the principles under which a Cruz administration would operate are the very ones on which the American Republic was founded.

Cruz does not merely mouth the proposition that all men have been endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, he lives by this. As Texas Solicitor General he had been one of America's most successful public constitutional lawyers, with a string of successes in the Supreme Court. Having memorised it while still a schoolboy, the Constitution remains his guide to the good governance of the Union. By this he means the Constitution according to the original intention of the Founding Fathers, not that fictional 'living organism' which is the tool of activist judges who claim it means whatever they want it to mean.

I always liked Scott Walker and still do. I don’t believe he’s a joke here.

Scott Walker was one I looked at early, but too much of his rep rested on union-busting, which made him a Chamber hero and was demonstrably necessary, but I was unhappy that the Chamber loved him so well. Friend of my enemies, and all that. Some of his positions on issues were kind of e-GOPpy, so I switched to Cruz. Since then, I've found out some uncomplimentary things about Cruz, too, so I'm just this side of wandering eyeless in Gaza (like captive Samson).

I'm not likely to switch to Trump; Cruz is demonstrably more conservative except on immigration, where Trump says things that are more qualifiably conservative than Cruz (if Trump means them and doesn't change his mind).

Followed by nomination of Mitt Romney.

At least Romney lines up to the right of Trump.

Ted Cruz repeated the same story every time she heard him speak.

Lots of them, if not all of them, do that -- write a stock speech and stick to it. I think it's to avoid controversies and mistakes -- extempore remarks have started wars. That's how the Korean War started, with a speech by Harry Truman's Secretary of State, who forgot to include Korea among a group of countries we'd defend.

I heard Wendy Gramm (Phil Gramm's wife, and an officeholder herself) speak at a local Republican function back in, oh, I dunno, 2002 or 2004. Then I went to my state district convention, and she got up wearing the same bright-red designer dress with gold link belt and gave the same speech, verbatim. To say the least, I was disappointed.

Btw, a side note, with all this talk about Vietnam, do you remember that tune by Hendrix - - All Along the Watch Tower. One can envision now all those countries in Euope...and their Watch Towers; and their citizens as they rest -hoping not to be beheaded. We need Trump now, as soon as possible as he'll keep those islamic rapefugee muslims out and in addition won't let the illegals from South of the border re-enter.

Lots of truth to that ;-)

I remember meeting Wendy and Phil Gramm, as a kid - at the home of neighbors, when they were Democrats...lol.

I did have to go back and look it up. You are correct, the bill did pass the senate. I thought it was stopped there.

I think we're conflating two attempts to get Shamnesty passed.

The one that Cruz frustrated by parliamentary maneuver, that produced the vid clips that the Trump people used later, was the 2013 bill. The one that died last fall in the House was another try by the Chicago Cockroach, Cong. Gutierrez, whom PBS followed around with cameras to capture every righteous, glistening word. </retch>

Believe me, the dems are salivating over the stuff they can bring out about Trump and it won't set well with conservative voters.

The Left has been all about suppressing conservative votes for a dozen years now. Karl Rove counterprogrammed in 2004 by getting a string of battleground State Republicans to place referenda on gay "marriage" on their ballots. The conservatives came in like the sea and buried John Kerry in a tsunami of righteousness. Game over.

There was no such effort in 2008 and 2012, because the Chamber wanted a 'Rat president to pass national healthcare of some kind so the Fortune 500 companies could dump their employee healthcare plans -- and blame the Democrats. That was the plan from Day One. (Howell Raines, Oct. 2008, Conde Nast Portfolio, read it and weep.)

I BELIEVE Trump on immigration!!!! I am NOT going into my support of Trump with rose colored glasses, however the VERY FIRST step we need to take to fix this country is immigration!!!! I firmly believe he WILL build the wall my conservative values will mean NOTHING without that DAMN wall we will NEVER see another conservative POTUS!!!! he IS the only one who WILL build the wall because ALL the other candidates are beholden to donors who want OPEN borders!!!!

You are exactly right..I don’t mean to sound dramatic, but without Trump, our nation is lost. Trump is our Patton..
The rest of the candidates have agendas that do not include protecting the sovereignty of our country, or it’s citizens..they are merely spectators...

What can we do?

Volunteer for your candidate.
Support your candidate with a donation.
Become an election monitor.
Become active in your Republican precinct.

The list is almost endless, but it doesn’t require the approval of anyone on FR.

Just do it.

Then, come back when it’s all over and help be a voice of sanity whomever we nominate.

I still want to talk to the maroons who stayed home and didn’t vote for Romney or who badmouth W, because Al Gore and/or John Kerry would have been disasters that make W look like George Washington.

I have often thought that it would be better if we could only read what candidates said and what they had done and not be able to see them or actually hear them speak.

We could know them without being influenced one way or the other by their looks or demeanor.

the media's favourite, Donald Trump

I think they must have meant in the sense of "covering Trump sells soap flakes."

Trump, an opportunist and an inveterate deal-maker, is, as Jimmy Carter says, 'malleable'. While conservative, Rubio did not withstand the establishment as Cruz did, so they recognise in him someone who could replace an imploding Trump as their candidate. Only Cruz will do what Reagan did - this election is indeed crucial.

Bingo!

Not dramatic; you're right on mark. First of all, we have to immediately figure out a way, some way, some law, something - to stop Mullah Obama from bringing in tens of thousands of fanatical Islamic Muslims who will arrive and very possibly begin to murder our citizenry enmass and rape our wives and daughters! This is exactly what is going on in Germany, the UK and all the other countries where these insane Islamic Muslim rapists have arrived. This is absolutely imperative now! Something has to stop Obama from bringing in the 170,000 Islamic Muslim rapefugees he has promised to bring in before he leaves office!

freepmail me if you want off/on my ping list/also freepmail me if I'm pinging you to often, thank you

Why would you think Trump could topple the evil in our nation today, when he, himself, is not a godly man?

Cruz cannot stop this influx of hate either [on his own], but at least he knows where to start.

And for Catholics, as JPII has said in the past, pray [m-o-r-r-r-r-e].

The UK papers like the Telegraph, and Daily Mail have covered the rapes by the “refugees” quite well. Last month, they had a front page color photo of a 24 yr old librarian who was gang raped by the “refugees” in Germany. Her face looked like raw hamburger. The American MSM is closed to the public.
