Harry Reid To Republicans: You Better Not Block Us From Replacing Scalia

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) released a statement Saturday night following the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia that contained a warning shot to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY): Don't play politics with filling vacancies on the Supreme Court bench.

"It would be unprecedented in recent history for the Supreme Court to go a year with a vacant seat," the statement read. "Failing to fill this vacancy would be a shameful abdication of one of the Senate's most essential Constitutional responsibilities."

"There is no doubt Justice Antonin Scalia was a brilliant man. We had our differences and I disagreed with many of his opinions, but he was a dedicated jurist and public servant. I offer my condolences to his family."

"The President can and should send the Senate a nominee right away. With so many important issues pending before the Supreme Court, the Senate has a responsibility to fill vacancies as soon as possible. I sincerely wish to be absolutely wrong. I desperately hope I am mistaken in my analysis.

Unfortunately, looking at history along with recent trends (over the last several decades), I can see no other outcome, no matter how much I desire to be wrong.

The most insulting and regretful part of our recent history leads me to lay the blame for what is to come directly at our feet for our own decisions and lack of fortitude.

This is way too big an opportunity for the progressives.

They will do anything and everything necessary to replace Scalia with one of their own. They will push through exactly who they want; they will lie, cheat, break the law, ignore the Constitution, anything, no matter how evil it is. The media too will lie, suppress, ridicule, disparage, anything they need to do to turn the court their way. With the exception of two or three lone voices, republicans will do absolutely nothing to stop them and will even help them.

We will have an extreme leftist on the SCOTUS before the November election. I'm absolutely convinced of it. Nothing in recent history suggests anything but that outcome.

The United States is no longer united. America is a different place now. That's reality.

Harry Reid better start keeping a prudent "eye" on his "exercise equipment" again.   (Sadly, he is starting to run out of eyes because of his unfortunate "exercise" moves...)

If Ginsburg retires - and I think she will - that will put real pressure on the GOP to fill at least one of the two openings, but they should still stick with one of the two. That would give Obama three appointments to the court during his term, which is certainly enough. It might be a rallying point for the Dems in this election cycle, but I just can't see a majority of Americans getting fired up about this. I think enough Americans hate Obama that the GOP can come out relatively unscathed.

Here’s predicting that the open borders elites in both parties have already come up with someone that will, on the surface, appear to be conservative - but is wholly committed to the open borders cause. Obola will magnanimously nominate this “conservative” (to maintain the court’s balance, dontcha know) and there won’t be enough true American votes to stop them.

I hate to say this, but this country is now completely screwed.
