I can't find any stats about the population of Republican voters so I wonder ...

Try this...Voter History Statistics for Recent SC Elections

Select the 2014 party primary registration counts.

Here is the main statistics page... SCVotes.org Statistics

That plurality is probably swelled by the crossovers, who recognize Trump as the least conservative of the Republican candidates...

It never ceases to amaze me at the excuses made by those supporting the LOSERS. I haven't seen anybody else besides Trump who has gotten so many people to vote for them. Cruz collected 3000 more votes in Iowa, but since then... not winning much of anything, despite all of his "uncoordinated PACs" dumping on Donald and Marco with slime and innuendo. Teddy Bare has NO chance of even winning dogcatcher of Toronto. But, he can always get an undisclosed loan from his wife's bosses.

I sincerely hope that Donald has plenty of crossovers, but I think it is the rank-and-file Republicans that are voting for him. There s NO EVIDENCE that others have voted for him. But, the exit polls have demonstrated that it is VETERANS and Evangelicals and young and old and black and while and almost all of the other demographic groups.

Part of winning is attitude. Talk is cheap. But, I don't see any of the other candidates showing up in their own personal 757 (Trump) Force One. Nobody else has the list of accomplishments that prepare them to lead. The others may talk the right talking points, but their lives reveal "much ado about nothing".

Trump will win at the Republican Convention and become the candidate. In November, he can beat whatever the Dims show against him, by repeating his formula of success and response to attacks. He is a winner. He wants to "Make America Great Again" and if you listen to the others, they have all adopted HIS talking points. Follow the Leader and Vote Trump!

Trump, with crossovers, continues to get about a third of the vote in a divided field. A plurality is not a majority.

Cruz has less votes. He has NO plurality. What's you ridiculous point? Where is the evidence of your allegations of crossovers?

You guys are PATHETIC! Your guy is a LOSER!

The point? Two thirds of Republicans are voting for someone other than Trump. If we exclude the crossovers, three quarters of Republicans are voting against Trump. If the field consolidates in time, Trump may start losing badly. If that happens, I wonder if the Trumpsters will continue to insult the rest of the party?

Trump needs the field to remain split as long as possible.

You keep repeating the meme that Trump has crossovers and that is why he is winning. What is your evidence?

You have no point. You have only allegations.

When did YOU stop beating your wife?

No. I keep saying that Trump continues to win a plurality in a divided field. This is increased by the crossovers, many of whom i suspect are attracted precisely by the many points on which Trump is more liberal than the rest of the party. It remains a fair question whether Trump has a ceiling well under 50 percent. This suggestion, like all criticisms of The Donald, is routinely met with extravagant insults from Trumpsters, many of whom seem to relish alienating the people Trump needs to unite if he hopes to win in November.

If Cruz dropped out tomorrow with no endorsement, do you think his voters would go mostly to Trump or Rubio, the other Tea Party candidate in the race? I would bet Rubio, and vice versa. Cruz and Rubio together beat Trump handily. Nor will Trump get most Kasich and Carson voters. He needs the field to remain split as long as possible.

You are still beating your wife?

You are making insinuations based on some figment of your imagination. Who else has as many voters showing up at massive rallies? Who else is talking about HOW to change things?

You Teddy Bares should all be getting on board the Trump Express. Follow the leader!

It is neither an insinuation nor a figment of my imagination that Trump is getting about a third of the vote in Republican primaries, including the crossovers) and that Rubio and Cruz combined beat him handily in South Carolina. Trump could conceivably win the nomination as a plurality candidate if the field remains divided, but if he wants to win in November, he needs a united GOP behind him. It is not helpful for The Donald and his merry band of Trumpsters to play dog at the fire hydrant every time a criticism is raised.

For all his talk of being a winner, Trump strikes me as profoundly insecure. He is a businessman who had some success building an inherited fortune (although he would have done better financially investing his inheritance in an index fund). I will concede that he knows more about real estate thank I do, and more about Chapter 11 than I hope ever to have to learn. But there is not a single public policy issue on which Trump is better informed than the average Rotary Club member. Some of the bluster is just his native personality, but I believe much of it is a defensive reaction when he is out of his depth. His instinct when he is shown up is to punch someone in the nose and change the subject. Again, this is not helpful.

And if the non-Trump vote consolidates behind Rubio or Cruz, and Trump starts losing, will you take your marbles and go home, or will you support the nominee?
