2016 RAND Presidential Election Panel Survey (Trump Supporters Analyzed)
RAND Corporation ^ | February 29, 2016 | Michael Pollard, Joshua Mendelsohn

Posted on 02/29/2016 2:04:02 PM PST by Arec Barrwin

"Among people likely to vote in the Republican primary, people are 86.5 percent more likely to prefer Donald Trump as the first-choice nominee relative to all the others if they “somewhat” or “strongly agree” that “people like me don't have any say about what the government does.” Using statistical techniques, we can conclude that this increased preference for Trump is over and beyond any preferences based on respondent gender, age, race/ethnicity, employment status, educational attainment, household income, attitudes towards Muslims, attitudes towards illegal immigrants, or attitudes towards Hispanics."

"Trump also beats Cruz among likely primary voters who have liberal positions on economic issues. Trump does better among those who strongly support tax increases for the wealthy (incomes over $200,000) and support labor unions (Figures 4 and 5, respectively), while Cruz does worse."

Trump may end up being the Republican nominee, he's certainly not the conservative nominee.

Folks here keep saying this as if it is a revelation or matters.

Ted has an extensive resume’ of working for the conservative cause. As solicitor general of Texas he saved the 2nd and 1st Amendments. As senator he scuttled the gang of eight amnesty bill and inspired the TEA Party with his Obamacare filibuster to rise up and put a GOP majority in the Senate.
Granted the GOP leadership ignore the conservative base that gave them power but this too will end.
What has Trump done but TALK conservative while he ACTS liberal?
He is a crazy hair liar and con artist out to lose our country to the Left.

Yes, I understand. But for the last 18 years, I have been frequenting Free Republic and posting occasionally. I posted the very first comment by the Dixie Chicks against the Iraq War back in 2003. This is a conservative blog.

Trump supporters need to form a Populist Republic blog and go post there.

Not part of the plan.
Two debates ago Rubio was ridiculed by Trump’s new pool boy Christie for repeating over and over that Obama was not destroying America through incompetence but through (paraphrase) pure evil and ruthless Marxist design.
Donald Trump just HAS to be an agent of the Left because he is destroying the Republican Party by alienating the conservative base even worse than Mitt Romney did.
Duh Donald got away with it so long because people assumed Trump was a clown and a nut and would soon implode.
But he hasn’t, and just like Obama,Trump is cleverly ripping to shreds all resistance to the Left. He is like Lenin when Vlad said we will make them buy the rope we hang them with.

Gotta say, right now screw conservatism. I want the AMERICAN nominee. Conservative purity has gotten us exactly what?

Which candidate is constantly talking about making AMERICA great again, and I mean that sincerely? Trump’s message is an American message. Cruzbio have a “conservative” message. Conservatism hasn’t given anything to its voters in almost 30 years except a piddly tax cut that would have made Reagan blush.

For years conservatives have rightly pointed out that communism is a fraud because it talks a good game but delivers nothing. Conservatism is on the precipice of falling into that same mental framework, thanks to the “conservatives” in DC.

Please stop. The “mob” as you derisively put it consist of MORE educated people in EVERY poll than vote for Cruz or Rubio; people who make MORE money (i.e., work).

I know this hurts your feelings, but Cruz’s support in ALL the internals shows that he disproportionately draws from . . . the mob-—the non-college educated, lower income whites.

Trump out polls him among younger, older, higher income, education, sex, and racial groups. So instead of casting slurs, you might actually want to find out what is appealing to these pretty well educated people-—and why Cruz sucks so bad at attracting them.

Actually, Johnnie, they can be. But you have to show them how it realistically affects their daily lives.

Cruz, Rubio, Boehner, Portman, Ayotte-—all these people who campaign as “conservatives” then vote for Corker, or TPP, or do NOT shut down the government over Obamacare-—well, all that anyone can get from that is

“If that’s conservatism, why would I want to be associated with it? I’ll take the guy who will build a wall.”

True enough. The Trumpets like to say we the people stand with Trump. The real question is does Trump stand with the people? Maybe but maybe not. His past positions are certainly not reassuring.

"I don’t know, I really don’t. If it’s Trump vs Hillary, I may not vote. And that would be the very first time I haven’t voted in a Presidential election."

You do what's best for your country, not your personal feelings. Some will come to the conclusion that it is best for the country not to vote at all. I don't KNOW that rational, but if you don't for that reason, all the power to you. But if you think Trump is an egomaniac, how much of an egomaniac are you if you believe that it would be worse for the country for Hillary to be president?

We are all so frustrated and angry that it's not all that easy to think straight or figure out whom we're angry at. But we know this: Any action that gives the White House to the democrats is destructive to America. I don't see that you have a choice. I mean, you have a choice ... but if your job that day is to do what's best for America and not your personal feelings, I get that it sucks, but I don't see how you have a choice if your job is to go to sleep having done what's best for the country.

If there is a case for not voting that day, which helps the country and therefore isn't simply selfish, narcissistic and egotistical, all the things Trump is accused of, I'd love to hear it.

Per RAND: Among Republican primary voters that strongly favor tax increases on the wealthy, Trump leads Cruz by 45%.

Among Republican primary voters that strongly support labor unions, Trump leads Cruz by 37%.

I don’t claim to know everything, but I know one thing - Trump supporters are not conservatives.>>> i might be wrong but i think this refers to the hedgefunds tax advantages
http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2014/05/14/why-hedge-funds-dont-worry-about-carried-interest-tax-rules/?_r=0
To replace the Cayman strategy, many top hedge fund managers have entered the business of reinsurance, using Bermuda-based reinsurance companies as a capital base for investment in their hedge funds. Insurance companies must hold capital in reserve, and there is nothing to stop an insurance company from holding a huge reserve and investing that capital in a hedge fund.

If that is the case, I recommend voting third party or write in. I think it is important to send the message that we don’t want either candidate if both are objectionable. If people don’t vote because they don’t like either candidate, the establishment parties claim their 52% win to be a mandate or support. I would like them to get less than 40% of the vote and send the message that the voting public is UNHAPPY with the choices foisted on us.

Personally I’m undecided whether I could pull the lever for Trump. I used to think yes, but now I’m leaning to no. Glad Bush is out. I would not have voted for him.

Someone just sent me a speech from Trump that is only a few years old. He is waxing eloquent on how great Planned Parenthood is.
