On what basis do you KNOW this? What evidence do you have to back up this statement?
<><><><><><><
It’s not called an opinion for nothing, betty boop. Like others things, we all have them.
Trump will not upset the apple cart so as to upset the financial system, because that would not be in his own self interest (and I don’t use that as a perjorative).
I’m not quite the optimist that some of Donald’s supporters are, that he will be able to accomplish everything he promises, so while the political world may be shaken up considerably, I’m not convinced that the real world will be all the different.
Again, all assuming Trump is elected president, which I would have bet against not too long ago, but will now hold on to that money. I may need it.
Gingrich has been absolutely savaged on this forum.
There are times when I agreed with it, other times not...
What Gingrich is referring to is the threats to not vote in the general. This is something that he should save for the general.
But he has to talk all the time for some reason..which is why he gets criticized.
Well said, betty boop. Thanks for the ping!
You: Its not called an opinion for nothing, betty boop. Like other things, we all have them.
Dear dmz, would you kindly note two things about the above exchange? (1) You didn't answer my question. (2) Then you proceed to predict what Donald Trump will or will not do regarding the financial system, assuming that whatever it is he does do is entirely based on his own self-interest.
Wow. What a God-like view of the man's moral character, of his very soul, you have.
Is it fair for me to say that nothing "adds up" here? Where is the logic? Where is the evidence? As you say, it's merely an "opinion."
We are currently drowning in the Kultursmog, 99% of which is made up of such totally unhinged opinions.
You say that everybody has an opinion. But if an opinion is not based on logic and evidence, what good is it? Do you mean to suggest that one man's opinion is just as good (or bad) as another man's opinion, since both are utterly free-floating in the sense of being totally unhinged from real experience or any objective criterion whereby they can be judged for their merit?
Do you not see that this is a prescription for moral relativism?
Further on, as a Donald Trump supporter, I have to disclose that I do not expect that, if elected president, "he will be able to accomplish everything he promises." But I'm pretty darned sure he will try.
There is one thing that he (and I) understand, and that the GOPe does not. It is my understanding of our system of government that We the People are sovereign, and that ours is a political system "of, by, and for the People." This understanding appears to be something that neither the GOPe nor Ted Cruz even cares about.
The prevailing political status quo to which Cruz and the GOP establishment seem to subscribe is a system in which government is mediated to the people via a class of professional politicians, whose business it is is to be wiser and more virtuous than the people themselves. Thus we the people must fall in line and be guided by the political professionals, who are the Party people.
Trump utterly, completely rejects this notion. Which is why I am supporting him for President of the United States of America. Cruz and the GOPe, by contrast, simply want to hang onto the "pay-to-play" status quo that so richly benefits them, at the expense of the people whom they supposedly serve.
The fact is they serve only their own interests. And the people are, in their view, just so many sheep for shearing....
JMHO FWIW
I like to add that everyone has a right to his or her opinion and it should be respected.
But I fervently pray that He will continue to bless the United States of America, as He has done from the very beginning of our Novus Ordo Seclorum, our "new order for the ages."
At least, until now....
Nice of you to remind us, Kaslin.
Indeed, to do otherwise leads to tyranny.
P.S.: Are you a Libertarian by any chance?
I hear you, betty boop. The last few years have been trying, and there is no end in sight. Although I believe that it is my responsiblity and duty to stay informed, there are times that I just want to take a very long nap, until this is all over.
Old leadership out having a cow in public, swearing they're going to pogrom this guy.
Well, well, well. It's out in the open, ain't it?
Jenes Wort "Kulturschmog" sei, Frau Boop.
<laecheln auf>
That’s true. They also both like to cheat.
(I'm sorry I don't speak German....)
Looks like the Lone Star State is under full-scale cultural assault.
I was wondering why normally sane Texans would vote Cruz, when they had a far better choice, one more in line with their own historic culture....
Oh well. We're down Alice's rabbit hole for sure these days....
Robert Morrow seems like an interesting dude. I can see why “Babs Bush” might faint at the mere mention of his name. So get out the smelling salts!
What evidence do you have to back up this statement?
<><><><><
You want me to supply evidence for my opinions?
That I actually believe what I say I believe? That doesn’t make a lot of sense, now does it?
Trump has made no secret that he is quite fond of money and its acquisition. That is what supports my opinion that he will not upset the financial applecart. Feel free to agree or disagree, that’s not really a huge concern of mine, so have at it.
As for your comment “What a God-like view of the man’s moral character, of his very soul, you have”, well I wish I knew what the heck you are talking about, given that I spoke not at all about any of those things. I need not speak about his moral character, he has made a hash of Christian morality all by himself with his adultery and multiple marriages, but that is between him and his God. Not my concern. We’re all flawed. Even you and me.
That you believe my opinion to be unhinged is another thing I really don’t have major concerns about. We’re anonymous posters on an internet forum, and I find it hard to get worked up over the rants of other anonymous posters.
But you have a nice day, anyway.
It totally describes what hangs over, e.g., the Oscars.
Reminds me of that old Poulaner All-Fruit (preserves) commercial ..... "Wouldja pleeze pass the jelllih? "
"Oooohhhhhh! <faint>"
It's clear that you believe what you say you believe, dmz. But my question goes to: On what grounds does your belief rest? How do we escape the trap of solipsism? In other words, I'm bringing critical thinking to bear on this issue; and I don't believe this is an exercise in pure navel-gazing.
Consider this: When a baby is born, he or she really doesn't think, or believe anything. The state of a baby's mentality is a stream of consciousness, affected and agitated by emotional states and desires. In other words, actual thinking is something that a baby must learn how to do. Which is why children must be educated.
The classical Greeks -- especially Plato -- made an important distinction between episteme -- true knowledge -- and doxa -- opinion. The difference between the two is that true knowledge corresponds as closely as possible to the state of reality, while opinion quite frequently is "baby-like" in that it can be heavily influenced by emotional states and desires -- and usually is. As such, it may not be an accurate description of the real world at all. Rather, it is more the accurate description of our feelings and desires.
It has truthfully been said that a man can only see in others what he sees in himself; and also that we tend to see only that which we are looking for. Everything else gets dumped as irrelevant below the threshold of consciousness.
Which is why the greatest educator of all times (IMHO), Socrates, insisted to his students that the very first thing they must do in order to obtain truthful knowledge of the world and all the things in it is to "know thyself." By this he meant bringing a critical attitude to analyzing their own habits of thought. Clear the deck of self-elements, and one gains the chance to see reality as it is, and not merely as we desire it to be.
Which all too often is what "doxa" -- opinion -- ultimately consists of. If we then believe our opinion, we may be misled away from the truth, and fall into grave error.
FWIW. Probably still sounds like navel-gazing to you, my friend! But I put great stock in the Platonic insights.... and try to be a good student of Socrates.
Maybe this is not your cup of tea, dmz. Certainly I wouldn't hold that against you!
Be well. God bless.
