Mitt Romney is doing Donald Trump a BIG favor by attacking
Washington Post ^ | 3/2/2016 | Chris Cillizza

This, you might think to yourself, is, finally, the moment when the establishment -- such as it is -- stands up to Trump, screaming "enough" at the top of its lungs and, in so doing, bringing the party back from the brink of an total electoral disaster.

You would be, almost certainly, totally wrong. In fact, being attacked by Romney is more likely to cement Trump's hold on the nomination than loosen his grip on it. Here's why.

Romney is the face of the establishment. He's just the sort of guy the party loves -- a measured statesman who views running for office as a civic duty. He's "serious." He has "gravitas." He is "trustworthy" and "steady."

He's also the embodiment of everything Trump has built his entire campaign against. Romney is too cautious, too mannerly, not tough enough for Trump's taste. He's the face of a Republican Party that lost twice to Barack Obama. He's part of the problem, not the solution.

Seriously! You have to wonder parading Romeny who lost the election two times lecturing us on how to win the election. The MSM is working so hard to defeat Trump. Could it be they are terrified Trump will win against Hillary? You bet!

Even a dedicated lib like Cilizza can see this.

Only the stupid desperate GOPe can’t.

I agree. Mitt’s diss energized Trump’s base and raises sympathy from others.

When insurgents attack and a group of people, some are thinking...wow, what happened? What did WE do to trigger this? We have a similar analogy with the GOPe. What did WE do to set off the insurgents (Trump and other 'outsiders')?

Except in this case, the GOPe sent many so-called conservatives to Congress, then they folded like a cheap tent and/or incumbent Republicans did not support them - or even attacked them. Leadership caved (Boehner, McConnell, and recently Ryan) to Obama, Reid, and Pelosi. The people revolted and attacked the GOPe via the TEA Party and the Trump Tidalwave.

But, the GOPe refuse to answer the issue of “Hey, what did WE do to trigger this?”. The GOPe needs some introspection - a concept which they absolutely cannot grasp. They are genetically incapable of understanding the anger of "the great unwashed" whom they failed.

Trump is a symptom, not the illness.

Romney was - and still is - a dismal failure, not a just-in-time GOPe Super Hero.

If Romney had attacked Obama then like he is attacking Trump now, things may have been different.

If only the GOPe would fight Obama as hard as they fight Trump and Cruz.

Mitt, Jeb ... Jeb, Mitt ... too egotistical to believe We the People place no value on their opinions ... and too stupid to look in the mirror and fix their shortcomings to gain that value.

My thoughts exactly.

Had Romney gone after Obama like he’s going after Trump it probably would have been “President Romney.”

The net result of Romney stepping-in to this election cycle will be a 5 to 7 point average increase in polling results for Trump.

They left off "too bought and paid for by the global establishment money interests." (The main problem with all of them. I believe Romney could be plenty aggressive and "tough" but I also know he wouldn't be doing it fighting for us. He who pays the band gets to call the tune.)

Who knows, maybe its some kind of elaborate, secret, reverse Psy-op to actually promote Trump.

I mean, do Romney, the GOP establishment, the MSM, former CIA heads, Wall Street, etc.. seriously think that their coordinated attacks on Trump will do anything but HELP make him more popular? Are they that arrogant?

“Donald Trump has shown an extraordinary ability to understand how our economy works and to create jobs, he has done it in Nevada and across the country. He is one of the few people who stood up and said China has taken jobs from Americans. We believe in free trade but we have to have a President to stand up and not allow people to cheat day in and day out.”

Romney may as well pour gasoline on his credibility and drop a match on it if he now attempts one of his classic flip-flops.

I wonder if we will ever find out what was promised and by whom to entice Romney to jump into the primary brouhaha and make an utter ass of himself on national TV.....

He just flushed down the toilet what little personal honor and stature remaining after his dismal effort against Barack Obama.
