“Even I don’t trust Cruz but will get drunk enough to pull the lever for him”

Good for you. Nothing can make me drunk enough to vote for anyone I don’t trust.

What’s not to trust? That he won’t stop apologizing for being American? That he won’t build the wall? That he won’t do everything he can to stop ISIS? That he won’t try to get better trade deals? That he won’t review the VISA and Refugee programs? That he won’t try to stop companies from moving overseas? I think he will do each one of those. Maybe you don’t trust him on social issues. Well I don’t think abortion or gay marriage would change under Cruz either. Heck Reagan didn’t even change abortion. So I don’t see what the problem is.

“What’s not to trust?”

Other than spending his whole life donating to the establishment for political favors. Nothing. And a history of flip flopping on damn near everything? Absolutely nothing. Nothing you can say will convince me to trust him.

“You do know Pinochet, while righting the Chile economy, had a LOT of blood on his hands”

Sorry, but I think you’ve been misled. Pinochet was put in place not to save the Chilean economy, but to save the Chilean people from a communist takeover and subsequent blood bath.

The communists were terrorists. They were in arms against the people of Chile.

I don’t care how many of them Pinochet killed. It was obviously too small a number.

I don’t care how many of them he tortured. Terrorists are not entitled to any consideration.

After beating back the communists, he voluntarily called a free election.

The man is a hero.

Before writing, I did a quick search. The degree to which the lies of the left have been substituted for history is appalling.

“and is commonly referred to as a dictator.”

Sure, by the evilstream misleadia and ivory-tower academic buttheads. Why accept their version of events?

“THAT’s the kind of leader you seek?”

If only we had a leader who would start in by executing the domestic enemies of the Constitution by the double hand-full.

“Nothing you can say will convince me to trust him.”

I don’t trust him, but I’m still going to vote for him.

We are at such a sorry pass that we can only choose between “maybe he will” and “he certainly will not.”

If any of he candidates other than Trump is elected, liberty is finished.

In fact, when you remove elected officials from the superdelegate pool, at least one in seven of the remainder are former or current lobbyists.”

And when you include elected officials, at least one in six is a former, current, or future lobbyist.

Not my job to convince you. I am just grateful the voters are smart enough to vote for Trump. You could not convince me that Cruz isn’t a liar, sneaky and liberal on many issues either. So I will just vote for trump in Florida on March 15th and see where the chips fall.

“The communists were terrorists. They were in arms against the people of Chile.”

Yes, I know that, but communists were not the only ones killed by that regime. So perhaps the number might indeed be too high if innocents got in the way.

You can call it “the lies of the left” all day, but the atrocities of the Pinochet regime are many and well-documented. Yes, he called for free elections afterward, but let’s not deceive ourselves into thinking he was some kind of gentle giant down there.

Anyone hoping for a similar condition in this country should think again.

I see. Who would make that determination they are "domestic enemies?" Mobs on the street? Trump himself? Point is... careful where you tread. Many FReepers are craving a similar dictatorship (I even have many such comments saved) and regardless of the frustrations felt by many over the past few years, abridging constitutional rights is the wrong approach.

“Yes, I know that, but communists were not the only ones killed by that regime. So perhaps the number might indeed be too high if innocents got in the way.”

One cannot deny the near-certainty that there were innocent casualties of this war. However, (a) the communists initiated the war; and (b) the communists made it their policy to kill innocents. Therefore (c) whatever the number of innocents who died as a result of Chile’s defensive war against the terrorists, it was smaller by many orders of magnitude than the number who would have died had Pinochet not stopped the communists.

“You can call it “the lies of the left” all day, but the atrocities of the Pinochet regime are many and well-documented.”

Documented by the evilstream misleadia and ivory-tower academics. Repeated ad nauseum by the world’s communists. I am still wondering why you believe them. The worst atrocities that actually occurred were committed by the communists and blamed on Pinochet, with the connivance of their willing accomplices in the misleadia.

Just as Ferdinand Marcos was blamed for the Plaza Miranda bombing.

“Yes, he called for free elections afterward”

Evil dictators do not call for and preside over free elections.

“but let’s not deceive ourselves into thinking he was some kind of gentle giant down there.”

A gentle man would have lost Chile to the communists.

“Anyone hoping for a similar condition in this country should think again.”

It seems as though you need to vet your facts.

“I see. Who would make that determination they are “domestic enemies?” Mobs on the street? Trump himself?”

We have a legal system that provides for trial by jury. Why would you assume that I meant anything else? Could it be that anyone who opposes communism is a priori a bad person?

“Many FReepers are craving a similar dictatorship”

Horse shit.

“abridging constitutional rights is the wrong approach.”

Too bad you weren’t around to scold Lincoln before he suspended habeas corpus.

I find amazing you manage to avoid coming to grips with the well-documented history of the brutality of that regime.

Look.. you seek authoritarian “strongman” leadership — though I don’t agree with that stance, I understand your frustration. However, I prefer one who abides by the Constitutional limitations on governmental power.

As for vetting facts, the historical facts from a very wide variety of sources support my position. And deep down.. I think you agree.

Remember... in another comment you said you didn’t trust Trump. In that we agree... I don’t trust him either.

I see... I notice you conveniently omitted the fact this country was in the throes of the Civil War. And for the record, I don't agree with his decision anyway... nor did the Supreme Court five years after Lincoln suspended it in 1861.

I could personally care less what you think about him. And I could care less if you vote for him or not.
