Microsoft's aggressive campaign to get customers to Windows 10 is raising some eyebrows, with scattered reports that some people's PCs are automatically upgrading from Windows 7 — without their explicit permission.
For instance, in a post titled "My PC Upgraded To Windows 10 Without Asking, Then Immediately Broke," Kotaku's Patrick Klepek shares the story of how, last week, his Windows 7 PC installed the Windows 10 update automatically overnight.
"Maybe I forgot to push back the upgrade schedule, maybe I accidentally scheduled it by clicking the wrong button. Whatever the case, I definitely did not intend to install Windows 10," Klepek writes.
In the comments, on Reddit, and elsewhere on social media, other users chimed in to share their own similar stories of their familiar Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs getting suddenly upgraded to Windows 10.

If anyone is interested in how invasive Win 10 really is. Take a look at this video. When you first see this guy, you may think he’s some babbling YouTube kid who thinks he’s a computer guru and perhaps a joke. He’s not, this is one smart dude. He worked for Microsoft as a programmer for 15 years but was laid off when MS cut their workforce prior to Windows 10 being rolled out. He talks VERY fast but plain. If you can stick with it, he’ll show you some things about Windows 10 that will make you say....WHAT THE HELL?
I know...A lot of so called computer gurus claim they work or worked for MS. Ever heard of Spybot? The bottom link is a link to Spybot. They have a program that keeps Win 10 spying down to a minimum but you need to know how to use it. They have a link to this guy’s site as he gives and in depth tutorial.
This really isn’t for the beginner. Even the tech savvy will be tested on this.

Yikes, your tech isn’t very good. Took me 10 minutes to revert to 7 from 10 on a client’s computer about a week ago.

I don’t think you realize that millions of Americans, particularly in rural areas, do not enjoy landline internet connections with large or unlimited data allowances. I get internet through my mobile phone carrier and pay thru the nose for 40 gigs. I could also get internet thru a satellite dish via Hughesnet, at similar expense - which would also be data capped.

No apology necessary, but accepted nonetheless.
Overall, living out in the sticks, where my nearest neighbor is far enough down the road that I can wander out on my back deck on a warm summer morning in my BVDs, coffee in hand, without scandalizing anything other that a few rabbits and my wife’s cats, has definite advantages. But there are a few minuses as well. Overall I’ll stick with the country life, and fork over a lot more money for some things my city cousins enjoy at a fraction of the cost.

After using Microsoft products for almost 30 years, I guess it’s time to give them the old heave-ho. Wouldn’t be the first time a tech company has gotten too big for its britches. Anyone remember Alta-Vista? It was the most popular search engine on the net, by far, until it decided the world couldn’t do without it and it decided it could start charging users for each search they did. That’s when Google took off.

I purchased a new laptop back in December as a Christmas present to myself (an HP Pavilion Notebook -17 inch HD screen and I love it!) that came with Windows 10.
I had Windows 7 on my old laptop, a Toshiba Satellite that was getting very cranky, but I’ve had no issues adjusting to Windows 10. I found it rather easy to get used to. Sure there was a few things that briefly stumped me at first like finding programs on the app menu, but nothing major. I actually like the clean interface.
IE will be in your ‘APPS’ menu. I found it quite easily and pinned it to the taskbar. Also, there is a menu option in Edge to import Favorites if you decide you like Edge.
I use Chrome as my default browser and use IE as my secondary. Like you, I am not too fond of Edge, I actually like and prefer Chrome. I used a USB thumb drive to down load all my files from my old laptop to my new one and also performed an export of all my browser favorites, then importing them to both Chrome and IE and Edge on the new one and everything, and all my bookmarks, favorites came back up perfectly. I also found it easy to pin my most often used programs to the Task Bar.
At the same time that I bought the new laptop, I purchased Office 2016 and I have to say that I really like that as well.
That is correct. Click in the box “Search the web and Windows” and click “Apps”, type in “Internet Explorer”. If you right click on Internet Explorer from the menu, it gives you an option to “Pin to Taskbar”. It most likely will be IE version 11 but your favorites and bookmarks should be there.

If you want to use Edge, click on the “Favorites” menu (looks like several lines of various lengths), then click on “Favorites Settings”. It will give you an option for importing favorites from either and or Internet Explorer or Chrome. After you import, you will then see an icon on the Edge menu bar labeled “Imported from IE” along with any you have pinned to your Bookmarks Bar.
We used to ‘joke’ about getting a computer with a 1 Gig HDD (didn’t exist) and a Gig of RAM (SUPER EXPENSIVE!) with a 486 uP 50MHz DOUBLE CLOCKED (The ‘best’ you could buy!).........Today that would be a seriously under powered computer!.................sigh, those were the Golden Years of computing!......................

MS in essence announced it would install 10 on my computer in a few days and that there wasn't anything I could do about it except postpone the install on a daily basis. With that, MS set a new level in marketing obnoxiousness.
Downloaded your link and the problem appears to have evaporated. Perhaps at the corporate level MS will feel in the totality the moments of concern experienced by its millions of users.
