Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.
Before a man can ponder the words of Madison & Franklin he needs a decent job, and jobs are harder to find thanks to conservatives (unfair) free trade deals. So let’s fix those trade deals and halt illegal immigration before we get bogged down on political labels. Just a thought.

Let me see if I understand. If a person refuses out of principle to vote for Trump they will no longer be welcome on this forum?

Donald trump is an opportunistic democrat that has expressed a desire to run for President in the past and has stated that if he did he would run as a Republican because they’re stupid. He’s apparently right about that. The gop-e voting with and funding the democrat agenda while going to war and attempting to crush their Conservative base, while NOT being Conservative and NOT doing what they were elected to do has given Trump the opportunity to run and probably win the Presidency while proving that Republicans are indeed stupid. I say that as a Conservative Republican who doesn’t supports the GOP-e and who will NOT support Trump, any other democrat or any RINO.
Donald Trump supporters are not claiming he is as conservative as Ted Cruz. They are saying he can win, whereas Cruz cannot. So far, they have been right, as Trump is beating Cruz even in the Republican Party, even in states that should favor Cruz, even among evangelicals, even among military even, as you point out, here on FR.
Maybe you should stop assuming Trump supporters are stupid and gullible, and humbly try to understand what the appeal really is. Answer your own question honestly - why WOULD an intelligent person support Trump?
I support Trump and I am so tired of anti Trump people repeating the same cliches about him but never seeming to be truly interested in why I support him. Instead, just assuming I am an angry low information knuckle dragging xenophobe. As it happens, I listen to Trump’s rally speeches in their entirety, uninterrupted, whereas almost every anti Trump people I’ve asked will admit they rely on the spoon fed sound bites to get their information about Trump. So, who is low information? Who is prejudiced, who is closed minded?
Trump has a lot more going on than a lot of people think. I would be glad to have a rational conversation with anyone about what he has to offer, but not with people who assume I’m stupid from the get go.

I don't know anyone who is actually "in favor" of Trump; well, maybe HD27. Rather, it seems many Trump supporters might secretly believe he is actually a buffoon, but are primarily motivated by their hatred for the uni-party and what they have done to the country.
In this context, it doesn't really matter who the peoples' figurehead is, or what his background is, as long as that person actually represents the will of the people by getting illegal immigration under control, emasculates fed.gov, enacts taxation reforms, kills o'care, reduces the power of the banks, etc, etc, etc.
Trump supporters rightly see that this is it, the final fight for the republic. If either a GOPe/Dem candidate wins, Jim can turn off the electricity.
